Is this a serious infection?

725 Ransomware is part of a family of file-encrypting malware that tries to imitate the Globe ransomware. It’s also known as the GlobeImposter ransomware for this reason. The malware has a lot of different versions and you can differentiate them from the extension they add to encrypted files.

725 Ransomware

A lot of this family’s ransomware have free decryptors developed by malware researchers but there currently is none for this one. You might be considering paying the ransom but we do not recommend you do. There is a high possibility that you will not get anything in return or if you do get a decryptor, it may not work. Thus, reconsider paying. Instead, delete 725 Ransomware. And you most probably got the malware when you opened a malicious email attachment or were tricked to download it, thinking you were downloading some legitimate program.

How do these infections enter?

Usually, ransomware spreads via fake downloads and malicious email attachments. In the case of the latter, all you would need to do is open the attachment. Hackers make it so the email containing the attachment looks somewhat legitimate and users fall for that. It is fairly obvious when you are dealing with malicious emails but you need to be aware of the signs first. Never open attachments from senders you are not familiar with without first making sure it’s safe to do so. Always stay vigilant. Fake downloads are also a great way to spread ransomware. Avoid downloading something from unreliable sources, such as pop-ups or Torrents. Instead, if you need something, use legitimate/official websites.

What does it do?

The ransomware will start encrypting your files the moment it enters your computer. Once it has completed the process, you will see the .725 extension added to all affected files and will be unable to open any of them. You are then asked to pay a certain amount and supposedly, a decryption tool would be sent to you. You will be given an email address to contact them and it differs depending on which GlobeImposter version you have. Whichever email you are given, we do not recommend contacting the criminals because you would be asked to pay. Do not trust the people who encrypted your files in the first place because they might just take your money and give nothing in return. Or give you a decryptor that does not work. Instead, you should invest that money into backup. And if you did have backup, you can safely remove 725 Ransomware and restore files from there. And if you did not, you should still not give in, and delete 725 Ransomware.

725 Ransomware removal

You will need to obtain anti-malware software to be able to remove 725 Ransomware fully. Manual 725 Ransomware removal is possible but you may end up damaging your computer further, thus we cannot recommend it. Unfortunately, just because you uninstall 725 Ransomware, that does not mean your files will be restored.
