What is ransomware

Ladon Ransomware is a piece of malware that will encrypt your files and demand payment. The reason why ransomware is considered to be so dangerous is because it can get into your computer very easily, and once it does, there is little you can do to prevent it from encrypting your files. And once files are encrypted, it’s not always possible to get them back. There is always the option of paying the ransom, but that is never recommended for a couple of reasons, which we will explain further on. In the meantime, you are probably wondering how it infected your computer. It’s possible you opened an infected email attachment, or downloaded a malicious file from an unsecure source.

If you have backed up your files before the ransomware entered, you can recover files easily, but should only do so after you delete Ladon Ransomware completely. And if you don’t have backup, try the free recovery methods first, before even considering paying. And invest into backup because it can prevent a lot of trouble.

More details about this infection

First of all, it’s important to know how you could prevent a future infection. A lot of ransomware spreads via spam campaigns, thus it’s important that you pay attention to what emails you open. As a general rule, stay away from the spam folder, and don’t open email attachments as soon as you get them. Unless it’s a very specific attachment you were waiting for, first check that it’s safe. You can scan the attachment with anti-malware or using the VirusTotal tool. A lot of the times, ransomware containing emails contain grammar mistakes and pressuring to open the attachment. And when ransomware distributors pretend to be from legitimate companies, their emails will not contain your name. If a legitimate company were to email you, they would use your name, not a general greeting like User or Member.

You could also pick up the infection via those fake updates that show up in ads. You can encounter them quite often as you browse the Internet, particularly ones asking you to update your Flash Player. One thing to remember is to only download updates, or software, from legitimate sources, never ads.

The ransomware will launch as soon as you open the infected file. In a manner of seconds, you would find your files encrypted. All important ones, such as photos and documents, will be affected, and they will have the .ladon file extension added to them. Once the encryption proceeds is complete, you will find a ransom note, explaining that your files have been encrypted and that you need to pay to get them back. The ransom amount depends on how quick you are to pay them. Generally, it should ask for $350, to be paid in Bitcoin. It even suggests where you could buy the Bitcoin. However, paying crooks the money is not recommended because file decryption will not necessarily happen. It’s unlikely crooks will help you when they can just take your money. You are dealing with criminals after all. And by paying you would be supporting their future projects, which you could become victim of again. Like we said, part of that money is better invested into backup. There are a couple of free methods you could try, and a malware researcher may develop a free decryption tool. If you have backup, just remove Ladon Ransomware, and recover files.

Ladon Ransomware removal

Anti-malware software will be necessary if you want to fully and safely uninstall Ladon Ransomware. If you perform manual elimination, you might end up further damaging your computer as it is a complicated process. Unfortunately, removing the ransomware does not decrypt files, and anti-malware software is not capable of helping with that.
