What is LastPass?

LastPass is a password managed application that stores all your passwords. An imitation of this program, also called LastPass, has emerged and has been trying to fool users into thinking it is the real one. If you obtained the false extension, you are probably experiencing redirects to weird sites promoting dubious programs. LastPass was available on the Chrome web store but is not longer accessible. However, you still need to be careful as it could start spreading using software bundles. Pay attention to how you install software, and you will avoid this. This bogus LastPass imitation will not help you manage your passwords, as the legitimate one would, and will only hinder your browsing experience. We suggest you remove LastPass.

How does LastPass spread?

It seems the only way to obtain this PUP is through the Chrome web store but it has since been taken down. Nevertheless, if you are looking for the legitimate password manager, only download it from legitimate/official sources after you made sure it is the real program. PUPs can also spread via free software bundles so be cautious. When installing freeware, use Advanced (Custom) settings and deselect what has been added. All you have to do is uncheck the added items and that will prevent them from installing. The mistake many users make when installing freeware is using Default settings. Those settings do not allow you to deselect anything so avoid using them. We suggest you delete LastPass if you installed it without making sure it is legitimate.

Why remove LastPass?

LastPass, developed by LastPass, is a legitimate program that offers password management services. It deals with highly sensitive data therefore, it is not surprising that cyber criminals decided to make a bogus program, imitating the original one. The fake one is developed by AdGetBlock and that is a major clue that you might not be dealing with the program you initially wanted. The main issue with this false LastPass program is the redirects it causes. If you have this PUP on your computer, you will be randomly redirected to appforchrome.com, then to easydocmerger.com, which promotes a dubious application Easy Doc Merger. You might experience redirects to other sites as well, promoting various kinds of questionable extensions. You will get these redirects at random and the only way to stop them would be to uninstall LastPass. We suggest you stay away from PUPs and all dubious add-ons as they can expose you to dangerous content, which in turn could lead to a malicious virus. You should also delete LastPass.

LastPass removal

You can attempt to uninstall LastPass manually, if you can locate the file. Usually, PUP can be hard to find, thus manual LastPass removal could cause trouble. Another option is using a reliable removal tool. If you obtain the program, allow it to scan your computer and when it is found, erase LastPass. We suggest you be more cautious in the future about which programs you allow to enter your computer.
