About this threat
Advance System Care is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that poses as a legitimate security tool. You can obtain it via free software bundles, which means you do not even notice it entering your computer. Once it’s in, it will initiate a scan and inform you of all kinds of issues found on your system. As would any legitimate security program, it will offer to fix those issues. However, you’d need to buy the full version of it.
That is not exactly unusual as some security programs do do that. However, the problem with this PUP is that most, if not all of its found threats do not even exist. It’s just a ploy to make you buy something you do not need. There is also a phone number provided, which we suggest you do not call. If you do, you could be offered additional useless software or the developers might try to gain remote access to your computer. Do not trust in this questionable tool, and remove Advance System Care.
How did it end up on my computer?
You must have recently installed free software. Those programs usually come together with additional offers, such as adware, browser hijackers and other kinds of PUPs. They are not malicious but you do not want them on your device. In order to opt out of those offers, you need to manually deselect them during freeware installation. This is done in Advanced or Custom settings. Those settings will inform you about any added offer and you will be given the option of deselecting it/them. We would suggest you deselect everything as they are hidden in Advanced for a reason. If you use Default settings and constantly rush installation process, do not be surprised if you have to delete Advance System Care or similar again.
Why uninstall Advance System Care?
Like we mentioned before, the PUP will scan your computer and report about found threats. They might include adware, hijackers, viruses, etc. Old registries might also be flagged as serious threats. The number of issues you will be shown will be quite big and less experienced users might panic and think that their computer is in danger. This would prompt them to use the program to fix the issues. Of course, it’s not free. You’d need to buy the full version if you want to fix anything. The price would be completely unreasonable for a useless program like this. And even if it’s a small amount, you really do not need it. Most likely the only pest on the system is this PUP. We must also caution you against dialing the number provided as scammers will most likely try to trick you. We strongly suggest you remove Advance System Care.
