CryptoRoger Removal Tips

CryptoRoger is a ransomware infection that is used by cyber crooks to extort money from computer users. It spreads online through spam emails, corrupted links, fake ads, hacked websites, and so on.

After the parasite infiltrates your computer, it uses the AES-256 encryption algorithm to encode your data. It then demands that you make a payment in order to regain access to your files. We advise against following the instructions provided in the ransom note as there are no guarantees that the hackers will help you recover your files. You should uninstall CryptoRoger as soon as you can.

CryptoRoger-How does CryptoRoger work?

The malicious program works in a similar manner to its predecessors like Cryptor, Cerber, CryptoWall, Locky, and others. Once CryptoRoger infiltrates your computer, it scans your drivers for data files and encrypts such file formats as photos, videos, databases, archives, documents, and more. It modifies the extensions of all files that it corrupts by adding “.crptrgr” to them. If you try to open these files, you will not be able to do so.

After the ransomware is done with the encryption, it creates and opens a file that contains instructions regarding your further actions that come from the cyber criminals. The file is called !Where_are_my_files!.html and it states that in order to restore your data, you have to pay 0.5 Bitcoin (about $320). The message goes on to explain how you can make the payment, however, we urge you not to do that. Finally, the harmful parasite adds a .vbs file to the Windows Startup folder, which allows it to start up automatically each time that you log in and encrypt new files that you may add to your computer. There is no question that you need to delete CryptoRoger right away. The next chapter explains how you can do that.
