What is HxTsr.exe?

HxTsr.exe is a file that belongs to Microsoft Office. It’s something that helps the software to run properly but certain anti-malware programs notify users about a possible infection related to it. Norton, for example, informs users that the file is asking for permission to access the computer via Internet.  It does not seem to be a malicious file but it may be clashing with your anti-malware software. If you don’t have anti-malware but you notice the file on your system and become suspicious, it may be a good idea to get some kind of security utility.

HxTsr

It should be mentioned that malware developers like to disguise their malicious software as legitimate files so that users do not become suspicious. So if some kind of threat is disguising itself as HxTsr.exe, your malware removal software might detect it. But after you look into this further and read accounts on it being a Microsoft software file, you might dismiss it, which could allow the malware to remain on your system unnoticed. In order to find out whether you have malware or if it’s the real file causing problems, check where the file in question is located. The location of the real file is C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_17.7167.40721.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\hxtsr.exe. If you encounter it somewhere else, it could be malware, and your anti-malware is correctly identifying it as a threat.

Should you delete HxTsr.exe?

It would not be surprising if some kind of malware was disguising itself as this file so that you don’t become suspicious and get rid of it. But like we mentioned before, you can know whether it’s a malicious file by checking its location. If it’s not where it’s supposed to be and your anti-malware is flashing warnings about it, then you should consider removing HxTsr.exe.
