About LockCrypt Ransomware

LockCrypt Ransomware is added to files encrypted by the Serpent ransomware. It is a highly dangerous malware infections because once it enters your computer it will encrypt your important files and then demand that you pay a ransom to get them back. Computers usually get infected when users open malicious email attachments or download fake software updates. Once the file encryption is complete, there is little the user can do to recover files.

LockCrypt RansomwarePaying the ransom is not recommended because the hackers might not always decrypt your files. The decision whether to pay or not is up to you in the end, but our recommendation is you ignore the demands and delete LockCrypt Ransomware. If you have backup, you can restore your files from there. However, you first need to remove LockCrypt Ransomware from the system if it is still present.

How does ransomware spread?

Besides a few exceptions, ransomware usually uses spam emails and fake updates to infect computers. Opening every single email attachment you get without regards to safety is highly irresponsible. Always be suspicious when you get emails with attachments. If it is something unexpected, anything that causes even the slightest suspicion, do not open it without first making sure it is safe to do so. Use a reliable search engine to look into the contents and the sender. You should also only get updates/software from legitimate sources and not some random pop-up or ad. If you trust questionable sources, you may be putting your computer in danger.

What does LockCrypt Ransomware do?

If your computer got infected, your files will be encrypted and the LockCrypt Ransomware will be added to all affected files. Most users do not even notice that their files are encrypted and only realize what has happened when it’s too late. A ransom note will explain what has happened and will lead you to your payment page. You are asked to pay 0.75 Bitcoin to the provided address. Currently, that amount of bitcoins would equal to around $1290 or  €1170 but the currency is unstable so the price of the bitcoin may go up or down. The price is tripled if payment is not made within seven days. Paying is not something we can recommend because you may not get your files back. Paying does not mean the hackers will feel obligated to restore your files, you are dealing with cyber criminals after all. If you have backup, restoring files should not be a problem after you delete  LockCrypt Ransomware. Unfortunately, if you had no backup prior to infection, file recovery is unlikely.

LockCrypt Ransomware removal

Manually trying to erase LockCrypt Ransomware is not recommended because you could end up damaging your computer further. Instead, obtain anti-malware software and have it remove LockCrypt Ransomware for you. Unfortunately,  LockCrypt Ransomware removal does not mean your files will be decrypted. The anti-malware is not capable of doing that.
