About this threat

MySearch-DS2 is a browser extension that can be classified as an adware program. If you happen to find it on your system, you need to pay more attention to how you install free programs. This will be explained more in this report later on.

MySearch-DS2 extension

It should not directly harm your computer but it will generate a huge amount of advertisements with the intention to generate pay-per-click revenue. While the adware itself is not malicious, the ads that it generates will not always be safe. They could be hosted on malicious domains and that could lead to a serious malware infection. And there is no reason to keep adware installed anyway, it will only expose you to loads of ads, which will slow down you computer and make your browser crash more often. This is why you should delete MySearch-DS2 extension.

How would it end up on my computer?

You have it installed because you set up free software and did not pay attention to how you did it. When installing freeware, you need to access Advanced or Custom settings, because they will allow you to check if any extra offers have been added. If there is, you need to deselect it/them. Simply uncheck the boxes of all added items. Using Default settings is not recommended because you will not see any added offers and will have to remove MySearch-DS2 extension or similar over and over again. And unchecking a few boxes is much easier in comparison.

How does it affect my computer?

The adware will start generating advertisements the moment it enters the system. They will appear at random times and since the extension can be added to most of leading browsers, they might appear on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. It will also change the homepages on those browsers. You will be stuck with the ads and the changes until you choose to uninstall MySearch-DS2 extension. There will be a search engine provided on your new homepage, but using it is not recommended. If it leads to some legitimate search website, than the extension is probably gathering data about your browsing habits. And if you are led to a dubious search tool, it may be inserting sponsored websites into results so that you could be redirected. Keep in mind that both the ads and the redirects could expose you to some malicious content that could lead to a malware infection. If you want to a void that, delete MySearch-DS2 extension.
