About this threat

NewTabSearch is your typical browser hijacker, usually infecting users via software bundles. You need to be more attentive when you install programs if you have this threat on your computer. Thankfully, it’s not malicious so no need to worry about it harming your device. However, you should not allow it to remain on your system.

NewTabSearch

It will hijack your browser, set a weird page as your homepage and possibly force you to use a dubious search engine. These are all the characteristics of a browser hijacker, so essentially, they are all the same. We feel it’s necessary to warn you that while hijackers are not malicious themselves, some are able to lead users to malware. You could end up on some questionable website and without knowing encounter malware. We strongly suggest you remove newtabsearch.

How do hijackers spread?

You probably infected your computer when you were installing free software. We doubt you got it willingly. When you install freeware, it’s important that you pay attention to the process and make sure you check for extra offers. If there is anything attached, it will only be visible in Advanced or Custom settings. Always choose Advanced settings. Not only will you be able to see if anything has been attached but you will also be able to uncheck everything that has been added. Default settings do not let you do that so there no use in using them. And it’s much more difficult to delete newtabsearch than it would be to uncheck a couple of boxes.

Should you uninstall newtabsearch?

The hijacker will set a different homepage and new tabs without your permission, and that is the biggest indication that a hijacker has infected your computer. Of course, the first thing you might do when you notice the infection is try to change the settings back to what they were but you will quickly realize that the hijacker will just alter them again. So you can’t permanently change the settings unless you first remove newtabsearch. Until then, whenever you open your browser, be it Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, you will be led to a weird page with a search box. Hijackers tend to insert sponsored content into search results, so we do not suggest using the provided search engine. You may be exposed to loads of sponsored websites and be led to pages that have nothing to do with what you were searching for. And if you were led to an infected page, you could end up with some kind of malware on your computer. So what started as a simple infection could lead to a serious one. Delete newtabsearch.

newtabsearch removal

If you choose to uninstall newtabsearch, you have two ways to do it. It really depends on how much experience you have when it comes to computers. If you know where to locate the hijacker, go ahead with manual newtabsearch removal. However, if you are struggling, obtain professional removal software and have it take care of everything.
