About this ransomware

RotorCrypt is a ransomware type of malware that is responsible for encrypting your files. These kinds of malware use strong encryption algorithms to lock files and then ask that victims pay money to get them back. Infection is quite easy which is one of the reasons why it’s considered to be highly dangerous infection.

RotorCrypt Ransomware

Users usually pick it up by opening a malicious email attachment, or downloading something from unreliable sources. Once the infection is on the computer, it will encrypt files, and you will be unable to open them. Usually, ransomware drops a ransom message with explanation about file recovery, but with this one, you have to use an email address to email the hackers. We do not suggest you do that, because they will ask you to pay, and will probably not recover your files. Instead, you should delete RotorCrypt.

How does it infect computers?

Like we said before, email attachments and malicious downloads are usually responsible for spreading the ransomware. You need to be extra careful about opening email from senders you are not familiar with. Hackers write up a convincing email, attach the infected file and send it to unsuspecting users. Those who open the attachment, end up infected. Money related emails seem be popular, as users are most likely to open those types of emails. Only open email attachments when you are 100% sure they are safe. Also, refrain from downloading from unsecure sources, like Torrents and pop-up ads, as they are a great way for malware to spread.

Ransomware behavior

When the ransomware enters the computer, it will use complex encryption algorithms to make files encrypted. All affected will have specific email addresses as file extensions, which we assume victims are supposed to use to contact the crooks. Usually, this is where malware developers drop ransom notes so that victims know what to do but this one does not seem to care about that. If victims want to contact them, they’re supposed to use the provided emails. If you have no backup, it might seem tempting to email them but do remember that you are dealing with cyber criminals, and they will ask for payment. Paying ransomware developers is not something we recommend you do, as there are no guarantees you will get files back. They could just take your money and not provide anything in return. This would not be unusual. And in addition to that, you would be supporting the future activities of these people. Instead of emailing them, we recommend you remove RotorCrypt, and invest in trustworthy backup. And if you have it already, just delete RotorCrypt and then recover files.

RotorCrypt removal

Since ransomware is a highly dangerous threat, you will need to obtain anti-malware software in order to remove RotorCrypt. Manual RotorCrypt removal is possible but it will be too complex for you. Unfortunately, the security software will only erase RotorCrypt, it will not decrypt files.
