About this malware

Skype Virus refers to a variety of different viruses that use Skype for sending messages automatically, which lead to malware infections. If you’ve had the instant messaging/video call program for a while, you will have encountered some kind of virus via the program at some point. It could have been a cryptocurrency miner, some kind of worm, a Trojan that would steal your personal information or adware. Skype VirusThey spreads via messages sent from infected devices, so all you need to do is press on an infected link sent to you by a contact, and you’re infected. Malware would then download onto your device, and all your contacts would get the same link from you. The malware you get may end up being a Skype baidu virus, some kind of Trojan, etc. Some may be more dangerous than others, but it’s important that you remove Skype Virus as soon as possible. Afterwards, you must change your Skype password, and make sure it’s as complex as possible.

How do they spread?

All of these viruses spread the same way, via Skype messages. The virus infects an account, and then sends infected links via that account to all contacts. When someone presses on the link, their account gets infected as well and then it sends the links to all their contacts. This way it can spread to thousands of people. It’s not only Skype, however. Many telecommunication apps become tools to spread malware. Facebook’s Messenger in particular is often used for these purposes.

If you want to prevent a possible infection, be more careful about what you click on. Those infected messages sent via instant messaging apps are usually pretty obvious. They include the link to a malicious site and a some piece of text. It usually says something in the lines of ‘Hey, check this video’, ‘Is this you?’, or ‘It’s a very nice photo of you’ to catch your attention and make you want to click on the link. Never click on such links, and if you think it may be real, first inquire the sender about it. It becomes especially obvious (although some users still press on it) when you get the message in English but use a different language to communicate with the sender. Or you might not get any message at all, just the link. Whatever the case may be, if you were not expecting the link/file, don’t click on it without asking what it is first.

What do they do?

When a user presses on the link, they are taken to a certain website, which would download malware onto their computers. Their Skype account becomes infected as well, and it would send the same message to all contacts. If someone presses on the link, the same thing happens to them as well. The malware users download when the link is pressed may differ. Some might end up with a worm, some with a data-stealing or cryptocurrency-mining Trojan. Whichever case it may be, you don’t want the infection. It could follow your activity on a computer, collecting personal information, such as login data, including passwords, or bank details.

A different kind of infection could be using your computer’s resources to mine for cryptocurrency. It would usually be very noticeable because your computer would start acting sluggish and programs would take longer to launch. If you were to check your Task Manager, you would see weird processes using a lot of your CPU. It’s recommended to clean up the infection as soon as possible because your CPU is not meant to operate in such high temperatures for a long time. You could end up shortening its lifespan. Whether it’s this one, or something else, you need to delete Skype Virus immediately.

How to remove Skype virus from PC

In order to uninstall Skype Virus, you may need to obtain anti-malware software. Finding the infection manually may take time and skills, which not everyone may possess. If you are a less-experienced computer user, the process may be too difficult. Obtain trustworthy anti-malware software and have it take care of the infection, whichever kind it is. When a scan no longer finds any infections, you must immediately change your Skype account password. Go to the official Microsoft website and change your passwords there. We also suggest setting up a two-step-verification for your account (for all accounts, if possible) so that a code sent to your phone would be needed to log into an unrecognized device.
