What is SnapMyScreen?

SnapMyScreen is a new browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program (PUP) posing as a toolbar designed for those of us who love cats. It might seem quite appealing but the SnapMyScreen tool will take control of your browser and change your browser’s settings without you agreeing to it. It will also gather information about your search queries and browsing information. The SnapMyScreen toolbar can be downloaded from its official site (SnapMyScreen.com) but also comes together with certain software as a hidden tool that the user might not want to have on their computer. We recommend you uninstall SnapMyScreen, whether you chose to download it or not.

How does SnapMyScreen spread?

SnapMyScreen has its own official webpage where you can download the tool. Many cat lovers usually get the toolbar that way. But there are those who did not want SnapMyScreen on their computer. You might wonder how they got it then. Well, SnapMyScreen can come with other free software. When you are installing something you download from the Internet, you should always use the Advanced or Custom settings. If you use Default settings, you might miss additional and potentially dangerous software that will automatically install. Unless you use Advanced or Custom settings, SnapMyScreen might be installed onto the computer. Whichever way you obtained it, you should take care to remove SnapMyScreen.

What does SnapMyScreen do?

Once it’s on your computer, the SnapMyScreen tool will change your browser’s settings. You will find that your home page, new tabs and search engine have been changed to its domain. When you use your favorite browser, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, you will be redirected to the SnapMyScreen domain. You can not change the settings back unless you delete SnapMyScreen. The SnapMyScreen tool allows you to customize your page by setting wallpapers of cats and having it display the weather. It does everything to make you believe that it is a site you would want to use but in reality it gathers information about you and gives it to third parties. All your search queries and browsing information might end up in third party hands and they will use it for their own purposes, which could lead to identity theft. In order to avoid such problems, you should uninstall SnapMyScreen.

SnapMyScreen also redirects you to certain websites in order to generate traffic. More traffic means more money for site owners. Those sites might also be full of serious malware that will automatically download and install if you visit them. SnapMyScreen is designed to make money and not to make your browsing experience more pleasant. Therefore, SnapMyScreen removal is recommended.

SnapMyScreen removal

SnapMyScreen might seem like a convenient tool to use but if you want to avoid it tracking your browsing, giving the information to third parties and potentially ending up with a Trojan, you should delete SnapMyScreen. To remove SnapMyScreen, you are advised to use malware removal software.
