Apps Hat Madness is an advertising application that will constantly show you ads. It’s essentially adware. While not a serious infection, it’s not one that can be ignored. It aims to make revenue by showing you never-ending advertisements, some of which could malicious. This makes it a very noticeable infections, as it’s difficult to not notice ads popping up out of the blue. You will also see pop-ups and get redirected to certain websites. In most cases, users infect their computers with adware when they install free programs. Since no one would install adware knowing what it is, it comes attached to popular free programs. If users fail to manually deselect the attachments when installing freeware, they install alongside. And the reason so many users fail to deselect them is because they are hidden. If you continue reading, we will explain how you can prevent these unwanted installations.

Adware installs via software bundling

When users do not pay close attention to how they install programs, they end up with adware, browser hijackers and other potentially unwanted programs (PUPs). They are bundled with freeware, which is why this is often referred to as freeware bundling. The offers are permitted to install alongside the freeware, unless you manually prevent them from doing so. Fortunately, it’s quite easy to do that. If you choose Advanced (Custom) settings when setting up freeware, you will be shown everything that has been attached to it. If you do not want those offers, you will be able to deselect them. After you have unchecked all the boxes, you may continue installing the freeware.

Because those offers are rarely useful, we do suggest you deselect all of them. This way, you will avoid filling up your computer with junk programs. You should also be more careful about where you download your programs from. If you download from official websites, you may be able to avoid something bundled with it.

Apps Hat Madness shows you questionable advertisements

When your computer is infected with Apps Hat Madness, you will notice its generated advertisements on popular browsers like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. In addition to regular ads, you will also get pop-ups and be redirected to questionable websites.
