Ce qui est Shellbot Botnet
Shellbot Botnet est un botnet qui attaque principalement les serveurs Linux et des appareils vulnérables d’Internet des objets (IDO). La cybersécurité société TrendMicro sont ceux qui ont découvert le groupe de piratage (qu’ils nommèrent « Hors-la-Loi ») distribuant le logiciel malveillant. 
« We uncovered an operation of a hacking group, which we’re naming “Outlaw” (translation derived from the Romanian word haiduc, the hacking tool the group primarily uses), involving the use of an IRC bot built with the help of Perl Shellbot. »
le groupe est apparemment responsable de compromettantes serveurs FTP d’une institution de l’art japonais et un site du gouvernement du Bangladesh. Selon TrendMicro, ils liés puis les serveurs compromis vers un cluster de haute disponibilité pour accueillir un bouncer IRC, dont ils se servaient ensuite pour le commandement et le contrôle du botnet émergent.
« Aside from finding several exploit files that allowed us to understand how the initial exploit on the first server worked, we also found configuration files of the hackers’ toolset that allowed them to target organizations through DoS and SSH brute force, using so-called “class files.” Moreover, this suggests that the threat actors were building a botnet that can be used for cybercriminal purposes. »
attaquants ont distribué le bot via un exploit ciblant la vulnérabilité ShellShock dans le passé, mais on constate maintenant à se répandre à travers la vulnérabilité Drupalgeddon2. Il semble que le malware principalement attaque IoT périphériques et serveurs Linux, mais peut aussi affecter les environnements Windows et appareils Android. Dans les attentats qui ont été analysés, pirates auraient profitèrent de hôtes précédemment brute-forcé ou compromis.
Jusqu’ici, aucune des attaques généralisées du groupe n’ont été remarqués.
