Amazon Smart Search Removal

About Amazon Smart Search

Amazon Smart Search could be classified as a browser hijacker that takes over browsers and changes settings. Amazon is a completely legitimate business but their search tool has been annoying users who suddenly find it loading on their screens. Trusting browser hijackers, no matter how legitimate they look or what company makes them, is not recommended because they are still a computer threat, albeit not a serious one.

Users usually pick them up when they install free software and not notice any extra offers installing alongside. While hijackers are not malicious themselves, they can still cause trouble by redirecting you to malicious sites where malware could be present. In general, a hijacker will not do you any good since it aims to lead users to sponsored sites. If you do not recall allowing this installation, make sure you delete Amazon Smart Search immediately.

How did Amazon Smart Search invade my computer?

Users don’t usually notice how hijackers enter and when signs of an infection start appearing, they are left wondering how it happened. These redirect viruses are attached to free software as extra offers that users usually end up missing because they use Default settings during installation. Those settings will not inform you about anything that has been attached and you will be essentially giving them permission to install. In order to avoid this situation, choose Advanced or Custom settings and deselect all the boxes that become visible. Always use those settings because otherwise you will regularly have to remove Amazon Smart Search and similar infections.

Why uninstall Amazon Smart Search?

The most annoying feature of this hijacker is that it changes your browser’s settings and does not allow you to alter them back. amazon.com/websearch will become your homepage and new tabs, and it will happen on all leading browsers so it does not matter whether you use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. The site will load every time until you delete Amazon Smart Search and then manually change settings. Using the site is not recommended because you could be exposed to all kinds of sponsored sites. Hijackers aim to redirect users to those sponsored pages because more traffic for those sites means more money for owners. Some hijackers are even able to lead users to malicious sites where malware could be lurking. This could lead to a serious malware infection. So even if the website looks completely harmless, do not use it. And remove Amazon Smart Search.
