How to delete Mybitsearch.com

About this PUP

Mybitsearch.com is yet another questionable extension and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). It’s completely identical to another suspicious extension Cryptosearch.site. It’s advertised as a plugin that allows you to “easily search web, images, videos and news”, which you can do without some dubious extension. The same developers are behind another extension that mines cryptocurrency when Google Chrome is open, so it’s safe to assume that Mybitsearch will also mine while you browse. It may also change your browser’s settings so that you could be redirected to sponsored sites. These kinds of changes are performed without the users’ permission and would be irreversible unless you get rid of the infection.

If you didn’t download it from the official website, you may have accidentally installed it when setting up a program. A lot of freeware come together with additional offers, which install alongside without the user even noticing. If you didn’t install it yourself, you should definitely delete Mybitsearch.com.

Why should you remove Mybitsearch.com?

The extension itself is highly questionable as it does not explain precisely what it does. It just claims to allow you to browse the web. The mining part should be assumed as it is not stated anywhere. In addition to mining, it may also change certain browser’s settings so that it could be able to insert sponsored websites to your search results. That would lead to unwanted redirects to websites whose owners want to make revenue from traffic. And in some cases, those sites could be malicious, leading to a much more serious infection.

It’s only available on Google Chrome browsers, so others shouldn’t be affected. Nevertheless, don’t just switch to another browser because the problem will not go away on its own. You will have to uninstall Mybitsearch.com yourself, which shouldn’t be difficult to do.

Such PUPs often spread via the bundling method, which means it was attached to another program you installed. It was added as an extra offer, and you did not notice, which allowed it to install. If you want to prevent such unwanted installations in the future, you will need to deselect those offers. To do this, you need to access Advanced (Custom) settings when setting up a program. Those settings will show you if anything has been added, and if there is, you will be able to deselect everything. Unchecking a few boxes is all it takes. After you have done this, you can continue installing the program and not worry about additional installations.
