How to remove Weknow.ac

What is Weknow.ac?

Weknow.ac is a search provider considered a browser hijacker. There is a reason why it has been assigned to this category – many users complain that they have found this search tool set on their browsers without their knowledge, which suggests that it illegally changes browsers’ settings, i.e. it hijacks them. Luckily, you can remove Weknow.ac from your browsers if you have found their settings altered and you do not like what you see. It is usually not that difficult to delete browser hijackers; however, if you know nothing about this, we recommend reading this article the first thing.

What does Weknow.ac do?

It seems that Weknow.ac is compatible with computers running on MAC OS X only, but we cannot guarantee that the version for Windows will not be released soon. No matter what kind of operating system you use, it would be best that you uninstall Weknow.ac right away if it ever shows up on your browsers out of the blue. In most cases, Weknow.ac is set as a default search provider, but you might find it set as your new homepage and New Tab page as well. No matter how trustworthy it looks, you should not use this search tool to search for the information because the chances are high that it will present you with various commercial advertisements instead of trustworthy search results. They might redirect you to untrustworthy websites. Some of them might even propagate malicious applications or try to steal some personal information. In fact, Weknow.ac might itself automatically collect some information about you. Such search providers should not collect any personal details, but they record automatically various non-personal details, from technical details about the computer to information about the user’s online behavior. Most probably, the collected information will be disclosed to third parties. Prevent this from happening by implementing the Weknow.ac removal.

Where does Weknow.ac come from?

It is hard to say how exactly the Weknow.ac browser hijacker has entered your computer, but it is very likely that you have installed it together with third-party applications. In some cases, users are informed in small letters that they will install additional software if they do not remove the tick from the checkbox; however, there are many threats that are installed silently. Weknow.ac might belong to the latter group of threats. You will remove Weknow.ac with our help this time, but a bunch of similar infections that might apply unauthorized changes exist too, so you should install an antimalware tool ASAP.

How do I uninstall Weknow.ac?

The first thing you should do if you decide to delete Weknow.ac is resetting all affected browsers. If the browser reset does not change anything, or you simply do not have time to implement the manual Weknow.ac removal, you should use an antimalware scanner. Not all antimalware tools are equally reliable, so you should install only such a scanner that can be trusted 100%. Then, launch it to delete Weknow.ac. One scan and the browser hijacker will be gone from your system.
