Remove Badoo virus

About these viruses

Badoo virus refers to threats related to the dating platform Badoo. It is a legitimate dating platform, not without its controversies, however. Users often get emails from Badoo with notifications about someone leaving a message for them on the platform. When they click the link, they are asked to provide certain details and an account in created for them without them wanting it. Users are sometimes even asked to provide their login credentials for other social media websites as well. Users also occasionally end up with a Badoo browser hijacker, that changes browser’s settings without permission and tries to redirect to questionable websites, while also exposing the user to various ads. It is recommended that you get rid of such infections right away, even if they are not particularly malicious.

How does it spread?

Badoo viruses spread via emails. The dating platform itself uses a rather questionable marketing technique where they send people emails claiming a message has been left for them on the platform. If they click on the link, people will be asked to provide some of their information, and if they do, a Badoo account will be created for them, connected to the email address from which they clicked on the link. Scammers also use a similar technique. They send messages much like the ones from Badoo with a message notification to people, and if someone clicks on the link, they will be asked to provide other social media credentials. Obviously, that is something you should definitely not do. If you did, your credentials would end up in the hands of scammers, and that is the last thing you want.

What does it do?

Badoo has a desktop app which you will not necessarily remember installing. It is considered to be a browser hijacker by some because it will make unwanted changes to your browser. It will change your homepage and new tabs, and instead you will see Badoo’s start page. It will display the Google search engine, but have the company logo at the top, and dating profiles at the bottom. If you were to use the search engine, you would be taken to Google, so that’s not a problem if you are used to using Google. However, when the hijacker is installed, you might notice your browser displaying some strange activity. You could be randomly redirected to strange websites and see more advertisements. Ads generated by browser hijackers are not exactly always safe, so engaging with them is not recommended. It should also be noted that hijackers also collect information about users, like websites visited, search inquiries, etc. If you don’t want that information to end up with third-parties, don’t allow hijackers to remain installed on your computer. Delete Badoo virus, and any other hijacker present on the computer.
