Remove ChannelSystem Adware

What is ChannelSystem Adware

ChannelSystem Adware is a very typical adware infection that affects Mac computers. In addition to being adware, it also has browser hijacker characteristics, which means that you won’t only see an increase in ads, get random pop-ups and get redirected to weird sites but also have your browser’s settings changed. This is a very noticeable infection because of all that it does, though users may not necessarily associate it with adware if they’re not aware of the symptoms.

It’s not a particularly dangerous infection so there is no need to worry about it causing damage to the computer. However, it’s also not something you should keep installed because it will cause a lot of inconveniences. And it should also be mentioned that while adware itself may not be that harmful, its ads and redirects may be a different story. You could end up on all kinds of dangerous websites, including those promoting scams and hiding malware. Adware is often responsible for showing users giveaway and tech-support scams, as well as leading to sites that ask users to download malicious files. Thus, the sooner you delete ChannelSystem Adware, the better.

How does adware install on a computer

Adware, like all infections of this type (browser hijackers and potentially unwanted programs), uses software bundling to install on user’s computers unnoticed. This method is rather frowned upon because it allows unwanted programs to essentially install without permission. To explain plainly, unwanted programs like adware can come attached to free software as additional offers. Those offers are permitted to install alongside freeware without requiring any additional permission. They are optional but users don’t deselect them simply because they are unaware that they’re even there.

If you want to correctly install programs, you need to opt for Advanced (Custom) settings. Unlike Default, Advanced settings will show you if anything has been added to the program you are installing. If there is anything, we recommend deselecting it/them to prevent their installation. Simply unchecking the boxes is enough. Once you have done that, you can continue installing the program.

Keep in mind that all programs you download from those free download sites will have some offer(s) attached to them. If you allow any of them to install, you will quickly fill up your computer with junk programs that are difficult to get rid of once installed. It’s much easier to just uncheck a couple of boxes, much less time consuming as well.

Is ChannelSystem Adware dangerous?

Adware infections aren’t generally considered to be particularly dangerous, so there is no need to worry about serious damage. However, you will quickly notice how annoying adware can be. One of the first things you will notice is that ChannelSystem Adware will change your browser’s settings, whether you’re using Safari, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. It will set its promoted site as your homepage, and you will be stuck with it opening every time you launch your browser until you get rid of the infection. In addition to this, weird ads will keep popping up, you’ll be randomly redirected to unknown sites and pop-ups will interrupt your usual browsing.

Adware does not have an aim to harm your computer, it wants to expose you to as many ads as possible in order to generate revenue. However, that ads that you are exposed to by adware won’t necessarily be safe. You could easily be redirected to sites that request you download some potentially malicious file, or to one that promotes a scam. A common scam shown by adware is a tech-support scam. You may be shown fake pop-ups that claim your computer is infected with some kind of virus and that calling the shown number is necessary in order to remove the virus. If you were to call, you’d be scammed into paying hundreds of dollars for services you did not receive or need, as your computer is not infected with anything.
