Remove Day Counter

About this threat

Day Counter is a questionable browser extension that may force its installation onto you. It’s not exactly malicious but it definitely does not belong on your computer. It acts just like an adware program and this is why you may be seeing an increase in various advertisements. You can accidentally install it when you are redirected to a certain website and a window pops up suggesting you add the extension.

No matter what you press, it will download. How to deal with these situations will be explained further on in the article. In the mean time, do not engage with any of the ads that appear on your screen. Some of them could be malicious and lead to serious infections. If you notice the infection, do not ignore the problem, and remove Day Counter.

How did the threat get into your system

You could have been redirected to a certain website and it prompted you to install the extension. You would have been given the choices of ‘Add extension’, ‘Cancel’ and of course the X button. It does not really matter which button you press on, all of them will trigger the installation. When you are put into a situation like that, close the tab or the browser. If you are not allowed to do that, access Task Manager and end the browser process.

Why uninstall Day Counter?

It might appear useful at first as it supposedly works as a day counter but after a while, you will notice that there is an increase in advertisements appearing. The add-on only seems to work on Google Chrome at the moment, but that could change at any time. If you notice it among your extensions, make sure you delete Day Counter. Until then, do not press on any ads and close pop-ups as soon as they appear. While not necessarily the case, some of them could be malicious and seeing as the add-on entered your computer forcefully, it would not be surprising if you ended up with malware if you pressed on its generated advert. Your computer might also slow down and the browser could crash more often than usual. All that because of this extension. If you want to make sure your computer remains safe, remove Day Counter.

Day Counter removal

You should be able to uninstall Day Counter manually in the extensions menu of your browser. If that does not solve the problem or if it renews itself, obtain anti-spyware software and have it take care of Day Counter removal for you. Those programs are designed to delete Day Counter and similar threats so it should have no issues.
