Remove DuckSearch Virus

About this PUP

DuckSearch is a questionable browser extension and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). It rather doubtful you installed it yourself, it’s more likely that it was attached to freeware as an extra offer, and you did not notice. It’s not a malicious infection but it is suspicious. If it manages to install onto your system, it will make unwanted changes to your browser, and set you a different search engine.

You will also have a different homepage, and these changes may be difficult to reverse. Usually, hijackers aim to redirect users to sponsored content, as they exist to make money for site owners, however, it’s not necessarily that you will be redirected. It could also be collecting information about you and your browsing habits, which could later be sold to third-parties. We suggest you never allow such questionable extensions to remain installed. Uninstall DuckSearch.

How did the hijacker install?

The browser hijacker was attached to freeware as an extra offer, and you must have not noticed. Those attached items are usually hidden, which is why so many users do not notice them. And if you do not notice it, you will not be able to deselect it. Use Advanced or Custom settings, and if added offers become visible, deselect all of them. Default settings will not show you anything, so opt out of using them. Unless you want to be stuck having to delete DuckSearch or similar again.

Why remove DuckSearch?

The good thing about hijacker infections is that they are very noticeable. When you launch your Google Chrome browser, you will see that it has a different homepage and new tabs. Your default search engine will also be changed. These changes can be performed without your explicit permission, and may be irreversible unless you first uninstall DuckSearch. Until then, you are stuck with luckyducksearch.com as your homepage. Interacting with the site is not recommended as it may be not safe. Browser hijackers tend to set unreliable search engines as your default ones, and they can insert sponsored links into the results in order to redirect you. This hijacker will give you search.yahoo.com generated results. It’s a completely legitimate search engine but the hijacker is taking away your choice. And if you wanted to use Yahoo, you could go there directly, there is no need to use some weird third-party websites. Especially since it may be collecting data about you and your browsing habits. We strongly suggest you delete DuckSearch.
