While PUPs are not considered to be malicious, in some cases, they may be able to redirect to malicious sites, which could lead to a malware infection. You obtained the toolbar in one of two ways, it was either added to some program that you installed, and you did not notice, or you installed it yourself. Whatever the case may be, we suggest you uninstall GifaPalooza Toolbar as soon as possible.

How did the PUP install?

It must have been added to freeware as an extra offer, which you needed to deselect. If you did not do that, the offer was allowed to install. Users are often inattentive when installing programs, thus the use of this method if quite common. In order to be able to deselect everything that has been added, you need to use Advanced or Custom settings. Those settings will show you those offers, and if there is something, just uncheck the boxes. We would recommend deselecting all offers because they do not belong on your computer. You could have also installed the PUP knowingly, from the official website but that is less likely. Whether you chose to install it or not, we would recommend you remove GifaPalooza Toolbar.

Why delete GifaPalooza Toolbar?

When you install the PUP, it will change your browser’s settings so that you have a new homepage, new tabs and search engine. The new homepage will have a search engine and GIF related services. If you don’t remember permitting those changes, the PUP probably performed them itself. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox among other browsers will be affected, and you will be unable to change the settings back before you uninstall GifaPalooza Toolbar. Your default search engine will be changed so searches you perform via provided search engine and browser address bar will lead you to so questionable results. These kinds of infections aim to redirect users to sponsored content so expect to end up on weird sites. More traffic for websites means more money for site owners, which is why the redirect happen. Some might also lead to malicious sites where malware could be lurking, so be careful. There is nothing useful to be gained from this PUP, so remove GifaPalooza Toolbar.
