Remove Gmrlnd.com

About this infection

Gmrlnd.com is a browser hijacker that will change your browser’s settings without your permission. It can enter your computer via freeware bundles, when you install free programs and do not notice that they have extra offers. It’s not the most serious infection you could encounter, more an annoyance that anything usually, but it can still be trouble.

Hijackers tend to redirect users to sponsored websites so that their owners could make income from increased revenue, but those sites are not always secure. Some could lead to malicious websites, where malware could be waiting. You could end up with a serious infection if you are not careful. Some hijackers offer some seemingly useful features so that users consider keeping them but this one will merely make unwanted changes and force you to use a search engine you may not want to use. It will also prevent you from undoing the changes so you will be stuck with them. If you want to return to normal browsing, delete Gmrlnd.com. And be more careful about how you install programs in the future because you could end up with a lot of unwanted programs.

How does it spread?

Hijackers are generally added to freeware as extra offers, and unless users deselect them, they will be allowed to install alongside. And since users tend to be quite inattentive when installing something, these kinds of infections are quite widespread. You need to pay attention to how you install programs in order to avoid these unwanted infections. Read the information provided, follow the process carefully and choose Advanced (Custom) settings. Advanced will make those extra offers visible, and you will be able to deselect them. Uncheck all the boxes and then continue the installation. The offers that come with free programs are not useful and will bring more harm than use. So always unchecking the boxes is recommended.

Why uninstall Gmrlnd.com?

You will notice a hijacker infection right away because your browser’s settings will be changed. Your homepage will be changed to search.yahoo.com. When you open your browser, whether it’s Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, you will first be redirected to Gmrlnd.com and then to search.yahoo.com. Your search engine might also be changed to Yahoo. Yahoo is a completely legitimate website but you should know that hijackers can manipulate search results and insert sponsored content into them so that you would be redirected. It should also be mentioned that the hijacker is forcing you to use a search engine you may not want to use, even if Yahoo is entirely safe. When users notice these changes, some may try to reverse them but will quickly realize that the hijacker will just change them again. Until you get rid of the infection, do not waste time trying to change anything because it will not be permanent. The website that will load as your homepage will only have a search engine on it, leading to Yahoo. If you use it, be careful of sponsored content, as it could lead to malicious sites. These kinds of unwanted changes and redirects to weird sites are what makes hijackers quite annoying infections. And exactly why you should get rid them.
