About MicroLeaves virus

MicroLeaves virus refers to an adware program that will fill your screen with advertisements. While many users will call it a virus, technically it’s not. It’s not exactly malicious itself, though its behavior certainly makes it seems like it is. However, by itself it’s not going to harm your computer. It’s primarily aiming to make revenue by constantly exposing you to ads. However, those ads are what makes adware dangerous. Adware does not check the ads that it shows you, so you can easily be exposed to malicious ones, or scams. You could be asked to download questionable or even malicious software, may get fake malware warnings, or be scammed into buying useless programs. These possibly malicious ads are why you are advised to avoid interacting with any advertisements while adware is still present on your computer.

It’s very likely that you installed the adware accidentally, when you were installing freeware. Popular free programs commonly come together with added offers, which need to be manually deselected. If you don’t notice them, and users usually don’t, they will install alongside the program without you even noticing. You would only think something is wrong if the infection starts exhibiting symptoms. It’s is important to learn how to correctly install freeware, and if you wish to do that, we will explain what you need to do in the following section of this report. If you are not interested in that, or how the adware behaves, you may proceed to the last section of this report where instructions on how to remove MicroLeaves virus will be provided.

How does adware install?

Like we mentioned above, adware generally installs alongside free programs. In what’s called software bundling, adware, browser hijackers and other kinds of similar infections are attached to freeware as extra offers. Those offers are authorized to install alongside, unless users prevent them from doing so. To do that, you need to pay attention to how you install programs. Most importantly, make sure to always opt for Advanced (Custom) settings. Unlike Default settings, Advanced will make all offers visible. Once you have a list of what has been added, you can proceed to deselect the offers. All you need to do is uncheck their boxes. Make sure that you do this with every software you install, even if you completely trust the program. We also do not recommend allowing any of the offers to install, as they’ll likely be more troublesome than useful. And it’s much easier to initially prevent those offers from installing than it is to get rid of them once they have been set up.

What does MicroLeaves virus do?

The reason you are reading this article is probably because you are constantly shown ads while browsing the Internet. The ads are probably appearing on all popular browsers, whether you are using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. The ads likely even appear on sites where you didn’t encounter any before. Adware aims to make as much revenue as possible, which is why it’s pushing all the commercial content to you.

Because the ads are not exactly safe when generated by adware, we suggest you do not interact with any of them if you notice that adware has inhabited your computer. Be particularly careful with ads that offer you to download something, or warn you about supposed malware on your computer. They are either trying to get you to install malware, or to scam you.

Tech-support scam pop-ups are commonly brought about adware. Such fake alerts falsely inform users that their computers have been infected with malware, which is causing their files to be deleted or stolen. According to the pop-up, if users want to prevent file loss and further damage, they are supposed to call the provided number for tech-support. If someone does call, he/she would be asked to allow the “technicians” to remotely connect to the computer in order to fix the issue. If permission is granted, scammers pretending to be legitimate technicians would install questionable or even malicious software or steal important-looking files. In the end, the user would be asked to pay a couple of hundred dollars for the supposed tech-support. From the very beginning, these tech-support ads are nothing more than a scam. The warnings about malware on your computer are not true, and no legitimate company (Microsoft, Apple, etc.) will ever make unsolicited contact with you about malware.

Similarly to tech-support scams, sometimes ads claim your computer is infected in order to make you install the offered security tool, which would later turn out to be malware. Again, if you get an ad that claims your computer is infected, do not interact with it. It will offer you to download a program, but that is the last thing you should do.

If you are offered great deals to purchase something, bear in mind that it may simply be a ploy to trick you. Overall, be skeptical of any ads you are shown while adware is still installed.
