Remove ProxyGate

What is ProxyGate?

ProxyGate is an adware application that is responsible for all the ads appearing on your browser. It is advertised as an application that supposedly makes many proxy servers accessible but it is also classified as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware. It will attach itself to all of your browsers and start generating advertisements immediately. If you did not download this PUP but it still appeared on your computer, it must have entered using free software. When you installed free software, you missed ProxyGate being attached to it which allowed it to install. It will not harm your computer but the advertisements can be highly frustrating and even malicious. So while adware itself is not harmful, the ads that it exposes you to could be. Which is why we strongly suggest you uninstall ProxyGate as soon as possible.

How does ProxyGate spread?

ProxyGate may be obtained on the official website but it can also spread with software bundles. Essentially, when installing free software, attached items are set install as well. In order to install free software without the bundled items, you need to deselect them. Opt for Advanced or Custom settings during freeware installation and deselect what has been added. All you have to do is uncheck the boxes of the added items and that will prevent them from installing. Users who rush through the installation process in Default settings usually end up installing all sorts of PUPs. If you want to avoid having to delete ProxyGate or similar, make sure to prevent them from installing in the first place.

How does ProxyGate act?

ProxyGate provides access to proxy servers and while many users might think it is useful, the ads that it will expose you to might outweigh the benefits. It will attach itself to all major browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. You will be exposed to all kinds of ads, including pop-up and pop-under ads, as well as banners. We suggest you refrain from clicking on any ads until you remove ProxyGate from your browser. ProxyGate will track your browsing sessions and collect data about you so that it knows what ads you would be more prone to click on. Adware also does not filter through the sites it will expose you to which means you could easily enter an infected page and end up with serious malware. You may also be offered to download something and if you did, you may also end up with malware. Only download programs or extensions from legitimate pages and not some random ads or pop-up. If you care about your computer’s security, delete ProxyGate.
