Remove Search.Totalav.com

About this threat

search.totalav.com is a dubious website and a browser hijacker. Browser hijackers are not malicious computer malware but they are annoying to deal with. Users tend to ignore hijackers when they infect but we do not recommend you do that.

If you notice that a weird site loads whenever you open your browser, do not ignore the issue. If it’s just once, it’s nothing to worry about. However, if you get redirected every time, your computer might have a hijacker infection. It’s not serious but you will be dealing with it changing your browser’s settings and redirections. The extension is available for download from official website but it also seems to spread via software bundles. If you got the hijacker this way, you need to pay more attention to the installations process and make sure you do not allow any unwanted programs to enter your system. Removesearch.totalav.com.

How does a hijacker infect a computer?

Browser hijackers are attached to free software, which means you need to check for added items whenever you install freeware. This can be done only in Advanced or Custom settings. When you launch the installation of the program, make sure to choose those settings. If anything has been added, it will become visible there. If there is anything attached, make sure you uncheck all the boxes. This will ensure that no item can get past. Refrain from using Default settings because you will not see anything there. If you use those settings, you can only blame yourself if you end up having to delete search.totalav.com or similar over and over again.

Why uninstall search.totalav.com?

For one, hijackers do not belong on your computer. They enter in a sneaky way and make changes to browsers without authorizations. You will find that the hijacker was able to infect all of the leading browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Until you remove search.totalav.com and then manually change the settings, you will be redirected to the hijacker’s website every time you open your browser. You should be careful if you choose to use the provided search engine because hijackers are known to insert sponsored content into results. Hijackers aim to redirect users to sponsored content. More traffic means more money for website owners. Some hijackers are also able to lead users to malicious sites where malware could be encountered. So be careful. And we suggest you delete search.totalav.com.
