Remove SearchThisAll browser hijacker

SearchThisAll is a browser hijacker promoted as an extension that provides convenient access to popular websites and online services. Although it is presented as a useful browsing tool, its primary function is to modify browser settings and promote the searchthisall.com search engine. These changes can affect the browser’s homepage, default search engine, and new tab page.

After installation, SearchThisAll may cause the browser to open searchthisall.com whenever users launch a new tab or perform an online search. The promoted website does not generate independent search results. Instead, it redirects search queries to another search provider, such as Bing. This allows users to receive familiar search results while their searches are first routed through an unwanted intermediary.

SearchThisAll is categorized as a browser hijacker because it changes browser behavior to promote a particular website. Users who install the extension for its advertised shortcuts may not realize that it also modifies their search preferences. As a result, they may encounter unexpected redirects even when they attempt to use their previously selected search engine.

Another concern is the potential collection of browsing-related information. Browser hijackers commonly monitor search queries, visited websites, and other browsing activity. Such information can reveal users’ interests and browsing habits, creating privacy concerns if it is collected or shared without adequate transparency. However, the exact categories of information collected by SearchThisAll and how they are processed have not been independently established.

Browser hijackers can also interfere with attempts to restore preferred settings. Some extensions repeatedly apply their own configurations while installed, causing unwanted changes to return after users modify browser preferences. The presence of SearchThisAll may therefore make it difficult to maintain a preferred homepage or search engine until the responsible extension is disabled or removed.

SearchThisAll should not be confused with a legitimate search engine selected voluntarily by the user. Its association with unwanted browser modifications and redirects through searchthisall.com makes it a potentially unwanted extension. Although its identified behavior involves browser hijacking, this does not establish that it installs malware or directly steals account passwords.

How do browser hijackers like SearchThisAll get installed?

SearchThisAll is promoted as a browser extension that offers quick access to popular websites. Users may encounter it while searching for browser customization tools, search utilities, or extensions that provide shortcuts to frequently visited online services. Installing the extension can introduce browser changes that are not immediately obvious from its advertised functionality.

One common distribution method for browser hijackers involves promotional websites that encourage visitors to install extensions. These pages may emphasize convenience, improved browsing, or additional features while giving limited attention to changes involving the homepage, new tab page, or default search engine. Users may approve the installation without fully understanding the permissions being granted.

Browser hijackers can also be distributed through software bundling. This technique involves including additional applications or extensions in installers for unrelated programs. Such installers are often available through third-party download websites, freeware platforms, and file-sharing services. Optional components may be preselected or presented as recommended additions during installation.

Misleading advertisements are another potential distribution channel. Advertisements displayed on questionable websites may promote browser tools or redirect users to extension installation pages. Some use exaggerated claims about performance, convenience, or functionality to encourage installation.

Adware can contribute to the spread of unwanted extensions by displaying intrusive advertisements or redirecting users to promotional pages. Users who follow these advertisements may encounter additional installation offers, including browser hijackers that modify search settings.

SearchThisAll’s known promotion involves presenting the extension as a convenient browsing utility. While bundling, misleading advertisements, and adware-driven redirects are established distribution methods for browser hijackers generally, their involvement in every SearchThisAll installation has not been confirmed. The resulting browser modifications depend on the extension being installed and granted the permissions needed to change browser settings.
