Remove ShieldDefense.net

About this hijacker

ShieldDefense.net is a website, set as your new homepage by a browser hijacker. It is identical to Mystartshield.com, another hijacker website. Hijackers are not considered to be serious infections because they do not directly harm computers but that does not mean they are harmless. You’ve probably noticed what it does already.

It changes browser’s settings so that its promoted website is made to be your homepage, and then proceeds to redirect you. It aims to generate income for the sites you are redirected to so you gain nothing from this. Some hijackers are also able to lead to malicious sites where malware could be encountered. If you are wondering how you even managed to acquire the infection, it was added to freeware as an additional offer, one that you needed to deselect. If you failed to do so, it installed. Remove ShieldDefense.net.

How to prevent hijacker infections?

Browser hijackers are added to freeware as extra offers you need to make sure you deselect them to prevent their installation. This is done in Advanced or Custom settings, which you should choose when installing freeware. Those settings will show you if anything has been added and if there is something, you will be able to deselect everything. You can not do that in Default settings so avoid using them. Unless, of course, you enjoy having to delete ShieldDefense.net or similar over and over again.

Why uninstall ShieldDefense.net?

Browser hijackers immediately change browser’s settings and prevent you from undoing those changes. You will have a new homepage set without your permission on all popular browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. You will only be able to change settings after you remove ShieldDefense.net. We do not recommend engaging with anything the website offers you, although it only has a search engine. If you were to use it, you would be led to MyStart Shield Yahoo Search where you could encounter sponsored websites inserted among the legitimate results. This is done so that the hijacker could earn pay-per-click income for the owners of those websites. Hijackers do not care whether you are led to safe websites, so you could end up on a malicious one, where malware could be lurking. If you do not want to end up with some kind of malware, you might want to delete ShieldDefense.net.

ShieldDefense.net removal

If you want to uninstall ShieldDefense.net, you can do so in two ways. If you can locate where the hijacker is hiding, you should have no problems with manual ShieldDefense.net removal. Otherwise, you can obtain anti-spyware and have it take care of everything.
