Remove Ssoption

What is Ssoption

SSOption 2.0.9.0 (by SoftwareX Corp) is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that falls into the adware category. It’s a relatively minor, albeit a very annoying computer infection. While technically adware is not a virus, many users refer to it as so because of its questionable behaviour. Adware mainly focuses on exposing you to all kinds of advertisement content in order to make revenue. However, it does not care whether the content is safe, which could potentially lead to much more serious infections. So while adware itself is not malicious, the same cannot be said about the ads it shows to users.

The SSOption advertisements may have a different text under the pop-up: “Powered by SSOption“, “Advertisements by SSOption“, “Brought to you by SSOption“, “Ads by SSOption” or “Ads powered by SSOption“.

There’s no reason to keep adware installed because it only shows ads. While adware programs are sometimes advertised as useful, they do not have any redeemable features that would be wroth keeping. The sooner you delete Ssoption, the sooner you can go back to normal browsing.

In most cases, users install adware accidentally, but they do it themselves. Adware uses the software bundling method, which allows it to sneak past users and install. These kinds of infections come attached to free programs as additional offers, and unless users manually deselect them, they will install alongside. If you continue reading, we will explain how you can avoid these unwanted installations in the future.

Adware distribution methods

Since users would not purposely install a program that would show them ads, adware uses software bundling to install. The method is popular among unwanted program developers but is very frowned upon by users and security vendors because it allows programs to bypass users and install.

Adware, browser hijackers and potentially unwanted programs come attached to free software as extra offers, and when users install that freeware, they end up installing the offers as well. The offers are purposely hidden from users during installation to ensure users do not deselect them. However, these installations are easily avoidable as long as you pay attention to the installation.

Next time you’re installing a program, opt for Advanced (Custom) settings instead of Default. Those settings will display everything that has been added and you will be able to deselect all of them. We always recommend deselecting all offers because while some may seem useful, they will be troublesome to get rid of later on.

If you want to avoid cluttering your computer with unwanted programs and other junk, you need to pay attention to how you install programs.

What does Ssoption do?

Adware are very noticeable infections because they bombard users with ads. All browsers can be affected, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge. Certain changes may be performed for those browsers as well. If the adware does perform changes like a different homepage and search engine, they will be irreversible while the adware remains installed. As soon as you get rid of it, you can make any changes you want to your browser’s settings.

Adware will immediately start showing you all kinds of ads, from banners to pop-ups. It can also redirect to certain websites to show advertisement content. As we have said above, these ads and redirects are not particularly safe and could expose you to scams and malware. Thus, it’s recommended to not interact with any ads while adware is installed, and close windows when redirected. Be particularly careful to not download any program from ads because they are likely disguised unwanted programs or even malware.

Adware is also know to collect information about users. Information like what you search for, what sites you visit, what ads you interact with, your location etc., will be collected by the adware. It will then use it to generate personalised ads you’d be more willing to click on. The information could also be shared with or sold to unfamiliar third-parties.

Ssoption removal

Because adware can be tricky to get rid of, we strongly suggest using anti-spyware software to remove Ssoption. If you try to remove Ssoption manually, you might end up missing something which could allow the adware to return. So instead, use a program that was specifically created to deal with these kinds of infections.

After you uninstall Ssoption, you should be able to reverse any changed settings and return to normal browsing.
