Browser hijackers are not dangerous infections but keeping them is not recommended. For one, they make changes to browser’s settings, set weird sites as homepages and new tabs, and prompt users to use unreliable search engines. Hijackers usually aim to redirect users to sponsored sites, so that their owners could make money. Hijackers are also able to redirect to malware-ridden sites, where you could pick up an infection. We suggest you delete websrch.co/search as soon as possible, before it can bring about more serious issues.

Why remove websrch.co/search?

If you don’t remember setting it as your homepage yourself, the hijacker was probably attached to some program you installed. It could have been added to freeware as an extra offer, and because you did not notice it, it was permitted to install. When you install programs, it’s important that you use Advanced or Custom settings, and read everything. Those settings will make all added offers visible, and we suggest you deselect all of them. Do not allow any of them install as you will only end up having to uninstall websrch.co/search or similar later on.

As soon as it installs, it will make changes to your browser, and set its promoted site as your homepage and new tabs. This could happen to all browsers you have installed, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. And you may be unable to change the settings back to what they were as the hijacker might prevent you from doing so. So until you delete websrch.co/search, you will be stuck with those changes. Your new homepage will be promoting a search engine, which we do not suggest using. It’s possible that it will be inserting sponsored content into results so that you would be redirected. Hijackers tend to do that as more traffic for sites means more money for owners. The biggest problem with these redirects is that they could lead to dangerous sites. Some links inserted into the results could redirect to malware-infected site, and you could end up with a serious infection as a result. It’s not a reliable search engine, so using it is not recommended. Instead, remove websrch.co/search.
