Remove Websrch.net

About this hijacker

Websrch.net is a questionable website that would be set as your homepage if you have a particular hijacker installed. Once the hijacker is set up, the website will start loading instead of your usual homepage. Other changes will also be performed and it’s all done without your permission. You might also not remember ever installing the hijacker or allowing it to make changes but it was able to do that because you did not pay attention to how you installed some kind of free program.

These kinds of infections are added to freeware as extra offers and are set to install automatically. It should be mentioned that it’s not a serious infection, it’s more annoying than anything, but it can indirectly expose you to a more serious threat. Thus, we recommend you uninstall Websrch.net.

Hijacker spread methods

Browser hijackers are added to freeware as extra offers and to avoid their installation, you need to deselect them. Fortunately, that is easily done. Simply choose Advanced or Custom settings when you install freeware, and you will be able to check if anything has been attached. If you do see something, uncheck the box(es). Make sure you deselect everything because otherwise you will allow all kinds of added offers to install, and they are sneaky for a reason. Always pay attention to how you install programs, and you will avoid having to remove Websrch.net or similar.

It performed changes to your browser, and now the weird site is set as your homepage and new tabs. As you will quickly notice, the alterations are irreversible unless you first uninstall Websrch.net. The site looks pretty basic, only has a search box and a couple of links. You will have to scroll down for the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy, both of which you should read. They will inform you that both your personal information and non-identifiable data is collected, the later of which can be shared with third parties for advertisement purposes. The search engine will not provide any superior results and in fact, it may be inserting sponsored content into among legitimate links. Hijackers do this to redirect you to those sites, which makes site owners money. Be careful not to press on anything malicious because hijacker do not filter through the sites. So you could easily end up with malware. You should remove Websrch.net.
