Remove Yahoo Powered Virus

About this infection

Yahoo Powered is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that will make changes to your browser’s settings. It’s not a malicious computer virus and will not directly harm your computer so as long as you take care of it as soon as possible, you will be okay. The PUP seems to promote the Yahoo search engine, as it sets it as your default, and it’s most likely aiming to make revenue.

When you open a browser, instead of seeing your default home page, the Yahoo.com page with the following URL will be dispalyed:

https://us.search.yahoo.com/yhs/web?hspart=iry&hsimp=yhs-fullyhosted_003&type=wbf_ir_17_16¶m1=1¶m2=

You could have picked up the infection when you were installing a free program. Those programs tend to come together with extra offers, and if you fail to deselect them, they will install alongside. Even if these kinds of infections are not malicious themselves, some PUPs are able to expose users to rather dangerous pages, where malware could be encountered. We do not recommend keeping this PUP. You should uninstall Yahoo Powered Virus.

How do PUPs spread?

Unwanted programs are added to free software as extra offers because users would rarely install them otherwise. They are not visible at first, and if Default settings were used during the freeware installation, they would install alongside. In order to be able to check for something attached, you need to use Advanced or Custom settings. They will show you all extra offers and if there is something you do not want, you can deselect it. You should uncheck all the boxes, as they are hidden for a reason. This will save you loads of time because you will not need to remove Yahoo Powered Virus or something similar again.

Why delete Yahoo Powered Virus?

The PUP will make changes to your browser without your permission the moment it installs. It will set us.search.yahoo.com as your homepage, and yahoo.com as your default search engine. These changes will be irreversible unless you first uninstall Yahoo Powered Virus. All of the leading browsers will be affected, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, so expect to see that site instead of your usual homepage on all of them. Yahoo is a completely legitimate service and there is no danger in using it. However, this PUP forcefully sets it as your homepage so that revenue could be made. If you encounter something you do not recall installing, and it did not come with the computer, it does not belong on your system and there is no reason why you should put up with it.
