SpicyStart.com Removal

About this infection

SpicyStart.com is a questionable search engine, advertised as a site that allows you to search for something spicy. If you are confused about what it means by that, you’re not alone. The site will be set as your homepage and new tabs by a browser hijacker, so if this site is constantly appearing on your browser, you may have a hijacker problem. It’s not a serious infection but it’s recommended that hijackers are dealt with right away because they can expose users to malicious content.

They intend to redirect users in order generate traffic for certain sites, which makes site owners money. Those sites will not always be safe, so you could end up being redirected to a page that has malware on it. If that malware manages to get into your system, it would be a bigger problem than just a hijacker. So if you want to avoid that, delete spicystart.com.

How are hijackers distributed?

Browser hijackers are usually spread via freeware bundles. They are attached to freeware as extra offers, which you can deselect, if you do not want them. However, those items will be invisible in Default settings. So when you are installing free programs, always use Advanced or Custom settings. They will show you if anything has been attached, and if there is, you will be able to deselect it. If you don’t, they’ll install, and you will be stuck having to remove spicystart.com or similar over and over again.

Why uninstall spicystart.com?

When the hijacker is installed, it will make changes to your browser without explicit permission. The browser will have a new homepage, new tabs and search engine. The changes will affect leading browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. And until you delete spicystart.com from the computer, you will be unable to reverse the changes. Your new homepage will have a big chili pepper image, Spicy Start written in big letters, and a search box. While the hijacker is present on your computer, every search you perform, whether it’s via the site’s search box or browser address bar, you will show results generated by a hijacker’s promoted search engine. Trusting the results completely is not something we would suggest because it may insert sponsored sites into the results. More traffic for those sites means more money for site owners. Some of those sites might even be malicious, so be careful not to run into malware. Just remove spicystart.com, and you can go back to usual browsing.
