Torrent Extension Virus – How to remove?

What is Torrent Extension adware?

Torrent Extension adware is a generic adware infection that will expose you to advertisement content if installed. Despite not being a particularly dangerous infection, it causes many issues, including inserting sponsored results into search results, showing ads, and redirecting to questionable websites. It shouldn’t directly harm your computer but it’s not something you should keep installed either.

Torrent Extension adware will start spamming your screen with ads as soon as it installs on your computer. It will also appear among the processes in your Task Manager as things like “ajf98127kja.exe”. If you notice this or similar processes, your computer may be infected with Torrent Extension adware. All popular browsers can be affected by this infection, including Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. You will start seeing ads everywhere you go, even on previously ad-free websites. You will also get pop-ups and redirects. These two are especially annoying and could even be dangerous because you could be exposed to serious malware infections as well as scams. You could be shown fake virus alerts that ask you to install something or be prompted to call fake tech support numbers.

You may also notice that you will be briefly redirected to apiscr.com and see messages saying “waiting for apiscr.com” before you get to visit your intended website. The redirect lasts only a couple of seconds but most users should notice this happening.

When it comes to adware infections, one thing that should always be mentioned is their data collection practices. When an adware program is installed on your computer, it will track your browsing and collect information like your IP address, your search queries, what sites you visit, what content you interact with, etc. What’s worse, this information is also shared with unknown parties for advertisement purposes. Your personal information is not collected but you should not be permitting a questionable program you didn’t even install knowingly to collect any kind of information about you. Particularly because you get nothing in return.

The sooner you remove Torrent Extension adware from your computer, the better. Once you do, all ads will stop and your browser will return to normal.

How did Torrent Extension adware install on your computer?

Adware is a somewhat minor infection, particularly when compared to other malware like trojans and ransomware. But dealing with it can be very frustrating. These infections typically use the software bundling method to install, which essentially enables them to do so without explicit permission from users. Adware and browser hijackers are two examples of infections that are often added as extra offers to free software. Without you even noticing, these offers are permitted to install alongside the program they’re attached to. Evidently, software bundling is a pretty controversial installation method, and programs that use it are often detected as potential threats by anti-virus programs.

Despite the fact that the offers are technically optional, users must still explicitly uncheck them if they do not want them to install. Unfortunately, many users have trouble deselecting the offers because they are hidden in settings they don’t normally use. But if you learn how to correctly install free programs, this shouldn’t be a problem. The most important step is to use Advanced (Custom) settings rather than Default when given the option. If you use Default settings, as recommended by the installation window, all added offers will install alongside the program. Only Advanced settings will make the offers visible to you, and you will be able to deselect each one.

For example, when installing free software, Advanced settings may show ticked boxes next to statements like “Install 360 Total Security”, “Install Amazon Shopping Assistant”, “By clicking Accept, I agree to Terms of Service and Privacy Policy and consent to install and enable Search Awesome for all browsers”, “Installing s5mark I agree to EULA and Privacy Policy”, etc. You only need to uncheck the boxes next to those offers to prevent them from installing.

Even if an offer initially sounds useful, do not allow it to install unless you want to fill your computer with junk programs that will only cause problems. Although they’re not particularly dangerous, infections like “AnonymizerGadget”, “Media Player 1004”, “Amazon Shopping Assistant”, and “PublicHotspot” can nevertheless cause issues. They can also be pretty troublesome to remove once fully installed. It’s considerably easier to just uncheck a few boxes in the very beginning.

It’s also not uncommon for adware to be disguised as useful programs. Oftentimes, such programs are advertised on questionable third-party app stores so you need to be very careful when looking for programs. It’s best to research programs before installing them, even if it’s as simple as using a search engine to look into them.

Torrent Extension adware removal

Adware is a relatively minor infection so you can remove Torrent Extension adware both manually and using anti-virus software. However, these types of infections can be pretty persistent, which makes them difficult to remove manually. If you don’t have much experience with finding and removing such infections, it would be best to use an anti-virus program because it would take care of everything. But if you prefer to do it yourself, you can use the instructions provided at the end of this report. Once you fully delete Torrent Extension adware, the ads should stop and your browsing will return to normal.
