Verizon Reward Scam Removal

What is Verizon Reward Scam

Verizon Reward Scam is a very generic rewards scam that claims users are eligible to get a reward if they fill in a survey. Users are generally redirected to these kinds of scams by adware infections that install on their computers using the software bundling method. These scams are more or less harmless unless users interact with them. If users do engage with them, they would be taken to phishing or malicious websites. In most cases, tricking users into revealing their personal information is the main purpose of these reward scams.

The Verizon Reward Scam asks users to fill in a survey about their Verizon experience. If they do so, they supposedly can get a $90 promo reward. It goes without saying that this is not actually true. If users try to take the survey, they would be asked to answer a few generic questions and then give their personal information. In particular, these scams try to phish users’ full names, dates of birth, email addresses, home addresses, and phone numbers. This information is usually gathered to be sold on hacker forums or be used by the scammers themselves to perform other attacks on victims. For example, the likelihood of a successful phishing attack increases if attackers know the victim’s name and other personal information.

It’s worth mentioning that these reward pop-ups are never legitimate. No company is showing random pop-ups and asking users’ to fill in surveys to get some kind of reward. The same goes for all giveaways. If Verizon was to promote a survey, the company would advertise it on their official social media and other channels, not random pop-ups.

In most cases, users are redirected to these kinds of scams when they visit high-risk websites. So these redirects are completely random the majority of the time. It’s possible to prevent them altogether or at least decrease their frequency by installing an adblocker program. They’re useful programs in general because they significantly decrease the number of intrusive ads users see when browsing. In rarer cases, adware is at fault. In that case, users would need to scan their computers with an anti-virus program to remove Verizon Reward Scam adware from their computers.

What triggers redirects to Verizon Reward Scam?

As we said above, in most cases, redirects to sites that display scam pop-ups happen when users visit high-risk websites. For example, visiting a site that has pornographic or pirated content often triggers a redirect. The redirects are mostly harmless as long as users close those windows and do not interact with anything. Having an adblocker program installed usually prevents these redirects completely.

It’s also possible for the redirects to be triggered by an adware infection. However, adware does not directly harm the computer so it’s considered to be more annoying than actually harmful. Infections like that install via software bundling. The method essentially allows programs to come attached to free software as extra offers. This permits them to install alongside without requiring any explicit permission for users. Essentially, the offers sneak in. This is why this method of installation is quite questionable, and programs that use it are often detected as potential threats by anti-virus programs.

Most free programs will come with additional offers so it’s important for users to know how to prevent them from installing. It’s quite simple. All they need to do is install programs in Advanced (Custom) settings. If users opt for Default (like the installation window suggests), all added offers will be hidden and permitted to install alongside automatically. Advanced settings, on the other hand, will display everything that’s been added, and allow users to deselect it/them. It’s always recommended to deselect all offers because they will not be useful in any way. And it’s much easier to deselect them in the beginning than it is to uninstall them later on.

If users were randomly redirected when browsing certain websites, they should simply install an adblocker program to block advertisement content. It’s also recommended to scan the computer with anti-virus software in order to check for adware. If adware is found, only removing it would stop the redirects. And getting rid of adware is easiest using anti-virus software.
