WikiBuy Removal

About this extension

wikibuy is a legitimate shopping extension that promises to help you find the best deals when shopping. It’s a Google Chrome extension and can be obtained from the official site or the Chrome store. This is a completely legitimate extension to use and it does not put your computer in danger. However, it has the ability to read and change all your data on the websites you visit, which means it could be collecting all kinds of data about you. While that is not exactly unusual, it could be collecting your personal data as well. If that is the case, you need to look into how that data is uses and why it’s even necessary. Since it’s not a dangerous extension, we cannot tell you to delete wikibuy, but you should look into it further.

Should you remove wikibuy?

Usually, extensions that focus on helping users shop enter computers without permission. They are referred to as adware. This add-on is not really considered to be adware and users install it willingly. It can be obtained from the Chrome shop, official site, or some other trustworthy source. But just in case, you should be aware of how adware can install without you even noticing. Those programs are usually added to freeware as extra offers and they need to be deselected. Just pick Advanced or Custom settings and uncheck the items that appear there. If you just uncheck the boxes, you will prevent countless infections from entering your computer.

The extension is advertised as a helper tool that will show great deals when shopping. When you are browsing on some shopping website, if you find something you like, the extension will show the same item but with a lower price. This can be extremely helpful for those wanting to save money. It only seems to work on Google Chrome but it may become available for other browsers in the future. The extension is not malicious so you can trust its provided deals. The somewhat worrying thing about this is that it’s collecting information about you, your browsing habits and possibly your personal information. When you know an extension or a program is doing that, you need to find out why the information is collected, how it is stored and whether it is shared with third parties. If you find it helpful, it’s safe to continue using it. However, if you are not using it, it may be best if you just uninstall wikibuy.
