About this threat
Advance Doc Optimizer is a potentially unwanted program (PUP), advertised as an optimization tool. These kinds of infection are very common. Users are tricked into installing some kind of optimization tool, which scares them into thinking that there are many issues on a computer. When users see the amount of issues the program finds, they might panic and try to use the program to fix them. The fix option is not free, however.
Users are asked to purchase the full version, which will likely not come cheep. There is no need to buy it because the issues that come up in the results are likely not that serious, or don’t exist at all. These scare tactics are used quite often to make users buy useless software. You likely picked up the infection when you were installing freeware because we doubt you stumbled upon it while looking for system optimizers. If it installed together with freeware, you need to start paying closer attention to how you install programs. We will explain more about this spread method and how to avoid unwanted programs in the following paragraph. In the future, you should be able to prevent unneeded installations. In the meantime, delete Advance Doc Optimizer.
How did it install?
PUPs usually spread attached to free programs. It’s referred to as the bundling method, and is quite common among unwanted program developers. Users tend to be quite inattentive when installing programs, and PUPs use that. When you install a program, you need to pay attention during the whole process, don’t just press ‘Next’, ‘Next’ and ‘Finish’. Read the information provided and always use Advanced (Custom) settings. Those settings, unlike Default (Basic or Quick) will make the added offers visible, which will allow you to deselect them. Unless you deselect all those offers, we don’t recommend continuing with the installation. Although those infections that come with freeware are usually not serious, they can still be a pain to deal with.
What does it do?
System optimizers are a debatable topic among security specialists. Some argue that they are entirely not necessary, while others don’t really see the harm. However, programs such as the one discussed here are very much not needed, although they will try to convince you otherwise. As soon as this tool is installed on your system, it will scan your computer for issues, and then show you the results. It may display an alarming amount of problems, but not all of them will necessarily be that severe or even real. It’s not unusual for these kinds of programs to exaggerate problems. If you believe the results, you would be asked to use the program to fix everything, but you will first need to buy the full version of it. We are unable to find the official website, thus cannot confirm how much it costs. However, whatever the amount it, it’s not recommended to buy it as it would only be a waste of money. There is probably nothing wrong with your computer, and you likely did not notice any strange activity or slowness that the system optimizer insists on. And if you want to use an optimizer, you can find better ones for free. And while you do, don’t forget to remove Advance Doc Optimizer.
