About Advanced System Repair

Advanced System Repair is a questionable system optimization tool, classified as a potentially unwanted program (PUP). First of all, we should point out that it’s not a malicious program, so calling it malware would be incorrect. However, while it’s not malware, it’s still a highly questionable program. It claims to fix various issues on your computer and improve its performance, but it may actually not do anything. In any case, system optimization tools are highly questionable, and many tech-savvy users are against using them. We will explain why more in the following sections.

There are many similar programs out there, the majority of them being outright scams that try to trick users into purchasing useless software. We have previously reported on programs like Power System Care, Power Speedup 2018 and Super Clean Pro 2018. They claim that the computer is severely infected or has a lot of issues that affect its performance, and offer to solve all those issues. However, in order to use the removal function, users first need to purchase the full version. That would not be a problem if such programs did not show fake scan results to force users to purchase the full program. Not all programs are necessarily this way, but we do strongly recommend you check what kind of issues Advanced System Repair detects, or if they even exist before you decide to purchase it. If you don’t intend to use it, delete Advanced System Repair.

It’s possible that Advanced System Repair uses the bundling method to install on users computer’s unnoticed. What that means is that it could have been attached to some freeware you installed as an extra offer. If you did not manually deselect it, it was permitted to install alongside. Continue on to the next section of the article to find out how you can avoid these kinds of installations in the future.

How could it have installed?

If you do not recall installing it, it could have used the bundling method, which is essentially attaching additional offers (adware, browser hijackers, PUPs) to popular programs. This method allows unwanted programs to install alongside legitimate ones, without users even noticing. If you want to prevent these kinds of installations, you need to pay close attention to how you install programs. The most important thing you need to do is use Advanced (Custom) settings during installation. Those settings will show you the added offers, which are otherwise hidden. In addition to being able to see what has been added, you will also be able to deselect all the offers, preventing them from installing. Simply uncheck the boxes, and you can continue the installation safely.

You could have installed it yourself as well, as it is available on its official website and various download pages. However, if that is the case, we suggest you pay closer attention to the programs you install.

Should you remove Advanced System Repair?

We cannot force you to remove a program, but we do suggest you look into them carefully before you make a decision. You should be aware that there are a lot of fraudulent programs that claim to fix your computer and improve your performance, when in reality they are nothing more then scams. These kinds of programs usually scan the computer as soon as they are installed, and display scan results with hundreds of issues. Some programs outright lie about the issues just to worry you, while others make minor issues seem very severe. This is why we suggest you check Advanced System Repair scan results closely. If it’s showing hundreds of issues, that is suspicions. If it’s showing registry entries as serious issues, that’s also questionable. And if you have no problems with your computer’s performance but the program shows you a lot of issues, you should be highly skeptical of the program. Fraudulent programs often display a long list of issues in order to alarm the user enough to buy the full program. Advanced System Repair is currently $29.95, which is not an amount you should pay unless you are absolutely sure it will benefit you.

Using system optimization tools, particularly ones that mess with the registry, should be done with caution. There are plenty of horror stories on the Internet, where a registry cleaner deleted something essential, which resulted in a broken system. Even Microsoft warns against using registry cleaners as they could do more harm than good. Furthermore, there is no need to clean the registry, as old entries are simply leftover files from uninstalled programs, which have no affect on the system.

You should also be aware that many tech-savvy users believe system optimization programs are unnecessary as Windows is fully capable of taking care of itself. However, if you believe you would benefit from such a tool, you should look into free options.
