About Searchroute

Searchroute (or Searchroute-1560352588.us-west-2.elb.amazonaws.com) is a browser hijacker that will make unwanted changes to your browser and try to redirect you to sponsored web pages. It’s a typical browser hijacker, it spreads the same way and does exactly the same thing as countless other hijackers. It will set your homepage to a questionable website, force you to use a different search engine, and potentially expose you to unreliable websites.

Browser hijackers aim to redirect users to sponsored websites in order to make revenue, but they’re not overly dangerous by themselves. However, these pretty minor infections can lead to dangerous sites, where dangerous malware is lurking. Thus, if you have noticed that you are redirected to Searchroute-1560352588.us-west-2.elb.amazonaws.com every time you open your browser, you need to delete Searchroute from your computer.

You likely installed the hijacker yourself, albeit without realizing. It spreads attached to free software in what’s known as software bundling. Users who do not pay attention to how they install freeware often end up missing anything being attached to them. And the added items can install without explicit permission.

Searchroute distribution methods

Software bundling is how most users end up with infections like browser hijackers, adware and potentially unwanted programs. What happens is unwanted items are attached to popular free programs as extra offers, and unless they are manually deselected, they are authorized to install. It’s also common that those items are hidden from the user. If you wish to prevent such unwanted installations, pay attention to how you install programs and always opt for Advanced (Custom) settings. Those settings will make all added items visible and you will be able to deselect them. After you uncheck everything that has been added, you can continue installing the program.

What does Searchroute do?

As soon as Searchroute installs on your computer, your browser’s settings (whether you’re using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox) will be changed. Every time you open your browser, you will be redirected to Searchroute-1560352588.us-west-2.elb.amazonaws.com, which promotes the bing search engine. You will be unable to change back your homepage, new tabs and search engine until the hijacker has been removed from your computer.

The hijacker promotes a legitimate search engine bing but it could insert links to sponsored websites into the results. And there’s no reason why you should use bing when you did not set it as your default search engine yourself. If you are redirected to bing and see Searchroute-1560352588.us-west-2.elb.amazonaws.com in the address bar, do not press on any results. You could be redirected to dangerous websites, which could lead to a malware infection.
