How to remove Thursailso.com from Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge

Thursailso.com is a questionable domain that will try to get you to allow the site to send notifications. The pop-ups that you get on the site are a social engineering attack that aims to make revenue by showing you ads. If you allow the site to send you notifications, you will start seeing advertisements not only in your browser but also on your desktop. Essentially, you will be bombarded with them. These attacks have become quite common in the past couple of months, and we have reported on the most widespread ones before (Defpush and Special-promotions.online).

In order for this kind of attack to work, you first need to be redirected to a certain website, in this case to Thursailso.com. Generally, either adware or you visiting questionable websites is the cause. If it’s the latter, the redirect shouldn’t reoccur if you don’t visit sites that will cause them. If the cause is adware, there’s an actual infection on your computer, albeit a minor one. Once you are redirected, you will likely be shown a video player with a message saying you need to allow notifications in order to view the video. At the top-left corner of your browser, an alert will ask you for permission. It goes without saying that you shouldn’t choose “Allow”, seeing as there is no reason to. While this website is relatively harmless, you could be redirected to ones that are dangerous and engaging with them could result in a malware infection.

If you are dealing with adware, the redirect will occur numerous times, even when you are browsing the Internet as usual. Adware is usually picked up when installing freeware. Popular free programs often come with added offers attached. They include adware, browser hijackers, potentially unwanted programs (PUPs). If adware is the cause, it will need to be gotten rid of in order to remove Thursailso.com.

How did the adware install

If adware is causing the pop-ups, you likely installed it alongside some free program. Since a lot of free programs come with added offers attached, it’s important to pay attention to how you install them if you want to prevent unwanted installations. The most important thing to do when installing freeware is to choose Advanced (Custom) settings. Those settings will make all added offers visible, and you will be able to deselect them. All you really need to do is uncheck the boxes of those offers. Some of the offers may seem good but it’s doubtful they will be of any use to you. And it’s easier to uncheck a couple of boxes than it is to later have to delete pesky programs.

What does Thursailso.com do

If you get redirected to Thursailso.com, a message will claim that if you want to view the video, you need to press “Allow” in the alert that appears. For security cautious users, this will immediately cause suspicion. However, there are plenty of users who are unaware of the dangers of interacting with questionable websites. If you allow the notifications, nothing might immediately happen but as you browse, you will notice a big increase in advertisements. The ads will appear on the browser that you used when you allowed the notifications.

There are a couple of different ads you should be particularly careful of because they could lead to a malware infection. You may be shown ads offering you programs/updates, or ones that claim you have won something. The former ads can be quite dangerous because you would be tricked into installing something that could harm your device.

When browsing even safe websites, you might be shown an ad that claims an update is available for one of your programs. If you are not aware that updates are never pushed this way, you might think this is a legitimate update and download it, only to later notice suspicious behaviour on your computer. It should be stressed that you will never encounter legitimate updates via ads. Programs either update themselves, or you can get an update from the official program website.

You may also be advertised programs via ads, and we recommend not downloading them from there. Ads are not reliable sources for any kind of downloads, so if you want a program, use official websites/stores. We also recommend looking into the program carefully before downloading it.

Finally, the last type of ad we wish to warn you about is one that claims you have won something. You likely already know this but those ads are always scams. They often use known company names like Amazon, Google and Facebook in order to appear more legitimate, but it’s not hard to see them for what they are. Remember, no company will ever host a giveaway this way, and if you didn’t enter a competition/giveaway, you can’t win one.
