What is AngryKite?

AngryKite is a ransomware type of virus. There are various ways you can infected your computer, the most common of which are via spam email attachments, fake downloads and exploit kits. Once your computer is infected, your files will be encrypted and the only way to get them back would to use a decryption tool, for which you will be asked to pay. Typically, ransomware developers just demand that you pay a certain amount of money and you would get the files back but AngryKite tries to make you call a certain number. If you were to call the number, you would most likely be asked to pay a ridiculous sum of money. You should be aware that cyber criminals rarely provide ways to decrypt the files. What will most likely happen is the hackers will take your money and leave your files encrypted. Thus instead of complying with the demands, delete AngryKite.

How does AngryKite spread?

Ransomware usually spreads via spam emails and fake downloads. When dealing with email attachments, never open one from an unknown sender without making sure it is safe to do so. Become familiar with the typical ransomware-containing emails and always be on the look out for signs when opening emails. Any of the attachments could contain ransomware and all you have to do is open the attachments. You should also refrain from downloading software from unreliable sources because what you could be downloading is ransomware instead. If you need some kind of program, use official web pages. Your software should also be updated regularly so that ransomware would not be able to take advantage of vulnerabilities on your computer and enter.

What does AngryKite do?

As soon as the ransomware enters your computer, your files will become encrypted. The file names will be jumbled up and the file extension .NumberDot will be added. A warning message will then appear and inform you that an encryption was detected. It will name the two viruses and state that your personal information is not safe. There will be a number provided with your ID. If you call the number you may be encouraged to buy the decryptor. It could be disguised as some kind of software and the people behind AngryKite may pretend to be security specialists. It would not be surprising if users panicked and called the number, where they might be scammed out of their money. We never suggest engaging with cyber criminals because they will most likely not give you your files back. There is nothing stopping them from just taking your money. This is why having backup is so important. Had you had backup, you could just remove AngryKite and restore your files form backup. Do not comply with the demands and delete AngryKite.
