About ByteFence

ByteFence is a potentially unwanted program (PUP), advertised as a capable anti-malware program. Because it is real software, you can obtain it from their official website (bytefence.com). However, it can also enter your computer along with software bundles, which means you can unknowingly install it. It is not malicious but it does have a few dubious features. It will change your browser’s settings without your knowledge, and that may be alarming. Even though ByteFence is perfectly legitimate, you should not trust programs that sneak into your computer without your knowledge. There are much more capable programs that can do the same things, so we suggest you uninstall ByteFence from your computer.

Why should you delete ByteFence?

As mentioned earlier, you can download the free version of ByteFence from the official website. But if you have it on your computer but do not recall downloading it, it must have gotten into your computer via free software. It was attached to some free program and when you installed it, you ended up installing ByteFence as well. This happened because you did not deselect ByteFence. You cannot do it in Default settings and that is the reason why you should avoid those settings. If something is attached, Default will not even show you. If you choose Advanced (Custom) settings, you can deselect the added items, preventing them from installing. Having to remove ByteFence will take more time than it would be to deselect it, so we suggest you take our advice.

ByteFence removal

As soon as ByteFence installs, it will change your browser’s settings. All your browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari will be affected. Your homepage, new tabs and search engine will be changed to search.yahoo.com. You might not even take notice of these changes and when you do, and try to undo them, you will be prevented from doing so. You would first need to uninstall ByteFence and then manually change the settings. These kinds of modifications made by some suspicious program, one that did not even ask your permission to install, should not be accepted. ByteFence is also not free. It will allow you to scan your computer, but if it finds something, it will ask that you buy the full version. While it is not malicious, it will still cause more trouble than its worth so we suggest you eliminate ByteFence from your computer.

ByteFence removal

If you choose to delete ByteFence, you can do it manually. Because it is a legitimate program, you should be able to remove ByteFence using Control Panel. Instructions to help you fully erase ByteFence will be provided below. And after you have taken care of ByteFence removal, you will need to change the altered settings back.
