What are these warnings?

Chrome Security Warning Scam refers to pop-ups claiming that there is some kind of problem with your computer, and that you need to dial the provided number for tech-support to fix the issue. These pop-ups are usually appearing because of an adware infection, which you could have picked up when installing freeware. Or you could have been redirected when visiting a questionable website. Whenever your browser shows you an alert of this kind and there is a phone number provided for Microsoft or Apple tech-support, it’s always a scam. You will never be asked to call legitimate companies this way. Ever. And besides, your browser has no way of knowing whether your computer has an infection. Why are you seeing them?

If you did, you would be connected to professional scammers, who are very good at convincing people of nonsense. They would ask to connect to your computer remotely, and if you allow access, you will see them messing about with your computer, supposedly fixing things. You will then be asked to pay a couple of hundred dollars. Both the ads and what the ‘tech-support’ says are absolute nonsense. Unless you have an infection that is completely unrelated to this, there is nothing wrong with your computer. No malware is stealing your personal information, as the warning may claim. It’s all a ploy to scam you.

There a couple of things you should remember when you encounter these kinds of ads. One, your browser will never warn you about a malware infection because it’s not capable of detecting one. Leave malware warnings to your anti-malware. And second, Microsoft, or Apple, or any other legitimate company will not ask you to call them via your browser. Nor will they ever call you personally.

Erase Chrome Security Warning Scam from Google Chrome

1. Access menu (top right corner of the window) and pick Settings.
2. Choose Extensions.

Remove Chrome Security Warning Scam from Mozilla Firefox

1. In the top right corner of the screen, press menu and choose Add-ons (or tap Ctrl+Shift+A simultaneously).
2. Move to Extensions and Add-ons list and uninstall all suspicious and unknown entries.
