About this threat

Guigoog.com is a browser hijacker, and a very obvious one at that. As is common with browser hijackers, it infects computers via free software bundles. If you have recently installed free software, you must have missed the hijacker being attached. This is not unusual, as those added items are hidden and you need to look for them to see them.

Guigoog

This is why so many users end up with similar infections. The good news is that hijackers are not malicious and are generally regarded as low-level infections that do not serious harm your computer directly. What will happen once the infection takes place is, the hijacker will make changes to your browser and set its domain as your homepage, new tabs and search engine. Without your permission. We should also note that hijackers are able to redirect you to malicious sites and you not taking care of Guigoog.com removal might lead to a malware infection. Which is why you need to delete Guigoog.com right away.

How does the hijacker spread?

Browser hijackers are spread using the bundling method. They are attached to free software as extra offers and you need to manually deselect them to prevent their installation. This is done in Advanced or Custom settings of the freeware installation process. In those settings, you will see everything that has been added. If there is nothing, you can proceed to install the freeware. If you do see something, however, make sure to uncheck the boxes. Only then should continue the installation. Refrain from using Default settings because you will end up with all kinds of unwanted programs and will regularly have to uninstall Guigoog.com and simialr.

Why remove Guigoog.com?

It’s very obvious when the infection is present on your computer because it will set a weird page as your homepage, new tabs and search engine. This will happen on all well-known browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, so no matter which browser you use, you will notice the infection. The changes are done without permission and are irreversible unless you first delete Guigoog.com. Your new homepage offers you a search engine in three languages: English, Japanese and Chinese. We would not recommend using the search engine as it may insert sponsored content into the results. If you press on them, you’d be redirected to weird sites. Those redirects are the reason why hijackers exist in the first place. They will aim to redirect you so that pay-per-click revenue could be generated. You could also be redirected to malicious websites this way. This could lead to a serious malware infection. Uninstall Guigoog.com.

Guigoog.com removal

In order to remove Guigoog.com, you might need to get anti-spyware software. The program would find and get rid of the hijacker. However, elimination manually is also possible. This takes more time since you’d need to find the hijacker yourself.
