What is MyShopBot?

MyShopBot is an adware application targeting Mac users. It can also be called a potentially unwanted program (PUP). You can infect your computer if you carelessly download and open free software without making sure nothing is attached to it. You can also download this application from one of the download websites. It’s advertised as an extension that can help you shop online by offering you seemingly great deals and coupons.

It also seems to track your preferences so that it can generate targeted ads. MyShopBot will insert intrusive advertisements everywhere you go and prevent you from browsing normally. It’s not malicious, nor is it a virus, but we strongly suggest you remove MyShopBot. Some of the advertisements could lead to dangerous websites and you could infect your computer with malware. Which is why you need to delete MyShopBot.

What does MyShopBot do?

If you did not download MyShopBot from the official page, it must have sneaked into your computer via software bundles. This is a very popular unwanted item spread method as many users are still not aware of the fact that certain items could be attached to freeware. When you choose to download free software, make sure there is nothing attached to it. Read or at least skim through the EULA to find out if there are going to be any surprises. Also, make sure to decline all additional downloads that could be offered when you download freeware and you will not have to delete MyShopBot or similar later on.

MyShopBot will start generating advertisements as soon as it enters your computer. It’s supposed to help you shop online by providing you with relevant ads but it will bombard your screen with adverts you have no interest with. It will start collecting information about you so that it can make more specific ads for you. Those advertisements will follow you on all your browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari. To get rid of them, you would need to remove MyShopBot from your computer. The things about adware generated ads is that they may not always be safe to click on. You could click on an ad and end up on an infected web page where malware is just waiting for you to enter. While adware is a mere PUP, malware could bring about a lot of trouble. You could end up with ransomware or data stealing Trojans. The fact that it will flood your screen with annoying ads and that it could expose your computer to danger should be enough reasons to uninstall MyShopBot.
