What is EnCiPhErEd?
EnCiPhErEd is a ransomware infection that belongs to the Xorist family of malware. It infects computers using different tactics like spam emails with malicious attachments, corrupted URLs, fake adverts, and so on. It may also infiltrate your system through an infected USB or another external drive. Once inside, the parasite will encode your data files, making them inaccessible to you. It will then demand a ransom payment for these files. You should not interact with the cyber criminals and you definitely should not waste your money on them. How does EnCiPhErEd work?
EnCiPhErEd ransomware was created using the Encoder Builder, which allows the hackers to choose the encryption algorithm, the types of files that will be encrypted, the amount of the ransom payment, and so on. Once the threat slithers into the system, it starts the encryption process. Usually, it affects photos, documents, databases, videos, music, and other important data. The malware adds the .EnCiPhErEd extension to all files that it corrupts and then creates the “How to Decrypt Files” text file on your desktop.
The message contained in the ransom note states that you should contact the hackers via SMS. Other versions of the malicious program may ask you to contact the cyber crooks via email or even Facebook. As we have already stated, you should not interact with the criminals or transfer them your hard-earned money, because you can decrypt your files for free and once you do, you can get rid of EnCiPhErEd for good. Fabian Wosar, an Emsisoft employee, has created a tool that can restore your data. If you contact him personally via fw (at) emsisoft.com, he will send you the decryptor. Please note that the decryptor can only be used, if you are yet to complete EnCiPhErEd removal. Another way of recovering your files is by using XoristDecryptor developed by Kaspesky.
