Java NotDharma virus is a file-encrypting type of malware that will lock your files and demand that you pay money to get them back. It’s typical ransomware, and was first believed to be an updated version of the Dharma ransomware but that later was proven to not be the case, thus the name. And when it comes to software or update downloads, you need to be careful about sources. Never download anything from unreliable sources, such as ads, banners, pop-ups, etc. Only official sources should be used for downloads. Otherwise, you are endangering your computer.

What does it do?

When the ransomware is launched, it will immediately start encrypting your files. The ones affected will have the .java extension attached to them. Unfortunately, all important files will be affected, including photos, videos, documents, etc. A ransom note will then appear, asking you to email them using ffgghtdfg@cock.li. Presumably, they will tell you how much you need to pay then. It’s not exactly known how much you could be asked, but whatever the sum is, it’s likely not worth paying. Like we said, you are dealing with cyber crooks, who will probably not recover files since they can just take your money. In addition, by paying, you would be supporting an industry that does millions of dollars worth of damages every year.

Backup would be a better investment as your files would always be safe, and if your computer was infected with ransomware, you could just recover them from backup. As for your encrypted files, you can try free recovery methods. And in some cases, malware researchers are able to crack the ransomware, thus might release a free decryptor.
