About this threat
Photor Chrome New Tab is a dubious browser add-on, considered to be a browser hijacker. If you have it on your computer, you either obtained it yourself or it was attached to free software and you did not notice. If the latter is the case, you need to review your freeware installation habits. While browser hijackers are not malicious, they can do some damage, albeit not directly.
Hijackers aim to redirect you to sponsored sites but they can lead users to malicious content, which could result in a malware infection. And even if they did not, the redirects are still annoying to deal with. Additionally, the hijacker makes changes to your browser and sets its domain as your homepage and new tabs. It will also change your search engine, and the new one might be used to redirect you. Delete Photor Chrome New Tab because otherwise you could be putting your computer in danger.
How does it infect computers?
The hijacker is advertised as a useful browser extension on photorext.net, so you could have gotten it from there yourself. If you have no recollection of this happening, you must have installed freeware and missed the hijacker being attached. Browser hijackers, adware and other kinds of unwanted programs are attached to free software so next time you install it, look out for extra offers. They are not initially visible, you need to access Advanced or Custom settings during installation. Those settings will allow you to see what has been added and if you do see extra offers, deselect their boxes. That is all you need to do. Refrain from using Default, because those settings do not show anything added and are probably the reason why you have to uninstall Photor Chrome New Tab now.
Why remove Photor Chrome New Tab?
It is promoted as an add-on that will change your homepage background into a scenery image and while some users might find this useful, there are those do not choose to install it. They open their Google Chrome browser and see a completely different homepage and have no memory of allowing those changes. The hijacker does not ask you and if you wanted to undo the alterations, you’d first need to delete Photor Chrome New Tab. The set home website has a search bar, weather reports and links to popular websites, such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc. If you use the displayed search engine, you might bump into sponsored results. The hijackers could be inserting them among the legitimate websites so that you would be redirected. If you are not careful, you could also end up on malware-ridden sites and some piece of malware could slither into your system. To ensure your computer’s safety, uninstall Photor Chrome New Tab.
