About this threat

SrchSafe Search is a browser hijacker, advertised as a privacy enhanced search engine. You might not remember installing it and that would not be uncommon. Browser hijackers are known to enter using free software bundles, which means they sneak past you when you install freeware. You do not need to worry too much if you notice it loading when you open your browser. Hijackers are not malicious.

SrchSafe

They are low-level infections that try to make income by redirecting you. For that reason, this hijacker will change your browser’s settings and set its domain as your homepage, new tabs and search engine. It will then try to redirect you to sponsored sites. You could even end up on some questionable or even malicious ones, which is why you need to remove SrchSafe Search.

How does a hijacker infect a computer?

You could have obtained it from the official website. However, browser hijackers are also attached to free software as extra offers. They are added in a way that allows them to install alongside. To prevent their installation, you need to manually deselect them. This cannot be done in Default settings. In fact, you will not even be informed of anything being added. You need to use Advanced or Custom settings because only there will you be able to check whether something has been attached. You will also be able to deselect all those extra offers. Unchecking a couple of boxes is much easier than it would be to later delete SrchSafe Search or similar.

Why uninstall SrchSafe Search?

If you did not choose to install them yourself, the changes made by the hijacker might surprise you. When you open your browser, whether it’s Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, you will be redirected to a dubious website. This will happen every time you launch your browser because the hijacker has set itself as your homepage. These changes are made without your permission and are irreversible unless you first remove SrchSafe Search. The website set as your homepage will have links to popular sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Gmail, YouTube, etc., and a search box. The search engine supposedly does not store any information about your searches but that might not necessarily be the case. If you choose to use it, you might be exposed to sponsored content, as hijackers aim to redirect you to those sites. Your results could be full of advertisement web pages and it might  not be obvious which ones are legitimate ones. Some hijackers are even able to lead users to malicious content so be careful. You could end up with malware. Delete SrchSafe Search.

SrchSafe Search removal

You have two methods to uninstall SrchSafe Search. If you choose to go with manual SrchSafe Search removal, you will have to find and get rid of the hijacker yourself, which could be difficult since the hijacker is hiding. The automatic method is recommended because the anti-spyware of your choice would locate and erase the hijacker.
