Remove Virus

Browser Hijacker

What is Virus? is a malicious webpage that presents computer users with a scam. This scam is aimed at tricking users into thinking that they need to call the provided tech support number, because their computer is in critical condition. The website itself looks like the Blue Screen of Death and contains several ominous pop-ups. The virus is actually classified as adware, however, it is somewhat more serious than that, because falling for the scam that it presents you with can result in serious troubles including malware infections, money losses, and so on. You should get rid of Virus as soon as you can.

How does Virus work?

The adware program installed on your PC is responsible for scam and other fake adverts that you encounter online. You most likely acquired the application accidentally as it gets distributed through free third party software bundles. You should always be attentive when installing freeware as more often than not it comes with additional offers of potentially unsafe programs. In order to avoid them, you should always choose the Advanced installation mode and deselect all unknown apps from the wizard.

The scam that you get exposed to appears as a security alert in your browsers. It claims that “a serious malfunction has been detected” on your computer and that you have to call the “toll-free number for a Microsoft-Certified technician to help resolve the issue”. This notification is clearly fake and it only aims at scaring the user into thinking that there is something seriously wrong with the PC and that he/she actually needs to call the number. If you do that, you will be contacting cyber criminals that are behind this scam. They may try to sell you some bogus software or even ask you to allow them to connect to your computer remotely. You should not call the fake tech support no matter how threatening the alert may seem. It is completely unreliable, and what you need to do without hesitation is terminate Virus.
